How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Banfield Pet Hospital

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

Wonderful sense of caring from the very beginning. The store by me closed so I wasn’t real thrilled about driving to PB but from the first phone call through my 2 visit I felt comforted and important. Office was nice, all the staff were super friendly and assuring. Worth the drive for both my dog Buddy and myself.👍🤩

WONDERFUL Staff - very caring for our little Bartley. Good office space and we were able to have her seen same day (and very close to closing!). Boba kept her company. ❤️

I had an awful experience with Banfield PB recently. There's a lady vet staff that will treat you with absolute dismissal, impatience, and arrogance. In short, my dog was left unattended for nearly 8 HOURS!! despite repeated calls from me stating that she could be at risk. She ended up passing the day after and it tears me apart to think she spent her last day in pain in a cage waiting to be assessed. On top of that, they will try to upsell you in every opportunity and make you use up your benefits as soon as possible so you can start paying out of pocket. I already submitted my complaints to Banfield directly. And mostly, from the bottom of my heart, I wish that no other dog goes through what my dog did at Banfield Pacific Beach. Don't bring your dogs here!

There are certain jobs where you want someone to be confident and communicative and one of those roles is veterinarians. Our vet did not possess either of these qualities and it did not put us at ease. Interaction felt unprofessional, at one point commented that they almost forget they need to perform a physical checkup. Additionally, we specifically scheduled an in person exam because we know our cat can become anxious and we were told they could do the blood work with us there. They then went into the back office with him and came back a few minutes later saying they would not be able to do the blood work then and would need to keep him there. An hour later we receive a call saying our cat was too stressed and panicked to perform the tests. So in the end we scheduled in person, was told that wasn’t possible, then discovered an hour later they couldn’t handle the drop off situation they asked for. Felt like a waste of time and unneeded stress for our pet. I can appreciate that it’s a weekend and they may be short staffed but unfortunately due to the issues we experienced we do not feel comfortable coming back to this location.

I was initially a fan, but then a “glitch” occurred, and they stopped charging my card. I called to cancel my plan, and they easily processed the cancellation request for the past two months. They had all my information but didn’t make an effort to address it. Also, avoid purchasing the wellness plan, as they don’t mention that if you don’t need it, you must pay for the rest of the year. It’s just unfortunate. (This is just my opinion)
