How to Save Money at Olympic Village Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We had such an incredible experience with the entire team when we brought in our eight month old pup. Dr. Emily was so amazing and took such great care of him. She took the time to answer any questions that we had and was so patient with our anxious pup through the whole visit. From the moment we walked in the door, the whole team was so helpful. You can tell everyone there loves what they do and is willing to care for your animal as much as you are. I can’t recommend them enough. Thank you for such a great experience!

I don’t how this happened but I thought I was writing a review for a chocolatier in another city. 🤣🤣🤣 Correction: this is a great vet that we always take our beautiful Coco. The staff are super nice and always very helpful. …. Delicious chocolates but overpriced. Or simply I don’t understand good chocolates. Cute mouse chocolates with the tail. Great as a gift.

I cannot give enough positive feedback for the team at Olympic Village Vet! We are SO happy we found them for our pups Billie and Bear. All staff - from front desk to assistants to doctors - are incredible. Kind, patient, and extremely knowledgable. There is full transparency on pricing, and in my experience there have been no surprises this way. In an emergency, they helped direct us where to go, and even followed up afterward despite being seen at another clinic. They really care!! If you are looking for a new vet for your fur baby, do not hesitate to come here. They are an amazing team that are second to none. Many thanks, we are customers for life!

Great clinic and awesome staff! Very thorough exam and they offered multiple options for treatment. Staff were super friendly and perfect with our cat, Fergal. The vet even got right on the floor with him to examine him where he was comfortable. Usually Fergal has no issue going from one room to another, but this time he was too stressed and panicked. Their team handled the situation very calmly and helped me get him back in his carrier. They gave me plenty of time to sit with him until he calmed down before leaving. They’ve already updated his file to ensure that future treatments will be done in the exam room or we’ll be offered a mild sedation before moving him. Couldn’t be more impressed and so happy to have a great clinic in Olympic Village!

Relocated back to Canada in July 2020 after living in North Carolina for several years. In May 2020, my boy Parker (Boston Terrier) who was eight weeks old came into my life. My vet in North Carolina (May- July) was awesome, but changed when I relocated back to Vancouver. Friends recommended Granville Island, but they were not taking new clients. Not having a local clinic, saw me taking Parker to VAC Emergency Clinic for a stomach bug. It was here, that recommended Dr. Sarah Armstrong and her newly opened clinic. Parker has been a patient there since September 2020 and I have no regrets. Parker loves coming here and they always take good care of him. The clinic is new and clean always. Dr.Sarah Armstrong is very knowledgeable and always takes the time to make sure I understand everything that has occurred to date. Dr. Armstrong and her team are amazing! You would be lucky if your pet can become one of their patients. You won't regret your decision - I promise that! Richard and Parker
