How to Save Money at Lindsey Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Lindsey Veterinary Hospital was absolutely incredible. After my dog ate the corner of a mince pie while on vacation out of country and they took us in last minute on a Saturday and immediately jumped into action. I called and they picked up on the third ring and we’re ready to help and jump in. We had them to the clinic within five minutes and they took him right back. They induced vomiting quickly and efficiently, making sure not a single minute was wasted. The vet was amazing and so calm and reassuring, and the entire staff treated my dog with such care and kindness. They didn’t hesitate to help clean up his many throw-ups that missed the bowl (true heroes), and they made what could have been a very stressful situation feel completely manageable. On top of everything, their pricing was extremely reasonable, especially for a last-minute emergency visit. I truly couldn’t have asked for better care, better people, or a better experience. From start to finish, it was perfect. I’m so grateful to this team and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Lindsey Veterinary Hospital to anyone. I wish I lived here in Penticton to come here again! But also, don’t let your dog eat raisins!

So incredibly happy with our experience at Lindsey Vet. We are new to Penticton and have some vet anxiety from previous experiences. Would absolutely recommend going here to any pet owner. Dr. Sophie was beyond amazing with my senior dog, and as an owner I felt validated for my reasons behind the visit, and not judged for not being to a vet in a while. She was kind and soft spoken with us, was so caring towards my old boy. The vet techs were amazing, and the receptionists were fantastic. Even being able to book an appointment as soon as we did was such a relief. Thank you all so much for everything, you are all amazing :)

What an amazing staff so empathetic and kind. They made an excruciating experience as painless as possible. 100 percent would recommend. They also provided me with a book The Invisible Leash to help my 3.5 daughter cope with losing her dog/ best friend. Thank you to all the staff at Lindsey Vet.

Monday Sept 22nd at 9am I phoned the clinic. I told them Dr Fitzgerald was my rabbits vet, that I had found a flea and that I needed him to be put on Revolution. The girl I spoke with said she would speak with the doctor, have her write a script and all would be ready for our appt which she scheduled for the coming Saturday. A vet tech would administer it as I was not comfortable at getting the dosage right. I also let her know he had revolution before at another vet. Lindsey had his records from that vet. We arrived Sat and no one knew what was going on. After 10 minutes someone came in and asked if I had the Revolution. I explained the situation and she left. She then came back, said there was no script and that we were waiting on a vet that was there to finish with another client and he would write it up. At this point I was fine. 15 minutes later someone different came in and told me said vet didn't treat exotics, told me to go home and they would phone me another day. So whomever I spoke with on Monday had 4 days to speak with my vet and let her know we were coming in. Instead I sat with a very stressed out rabbit for a half hr for no good reason. This is not the first time I have encountered front staff not knowing what was going on. I find Dr Fitzgerald to be a good, kind, caring veterinarian. The front staff need a talking to. This should never have happened. Update: The office manager reached out to me. I felt heard and validated. Best of all they now have a new policy when a bunny comes in Dr. Fitzgerald has to be in the building.
