How to Save Money at Aldor Veterinary Clinic Ltd.

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We highly recommend Aldor Veterinary Clinic! They are compassionate and caring and reasonable with common sense. Dr. Lohan is willing to take the time explaining things without rushing. Having a pet can be confusing at times as sometimes it’s hard to know it’s serious or nothing to worry about. Unlike some other vets and oil change places - Aldor doesn’t seem to upsell unnecessary treatments and, like said, has common sense factor in place. Thank you for going extra mile!

I can recommend Aldor Vet. We took our animals there for years until we moved away. They are much less expensive than where we live now in the interior and always gave good care.

I brought my cat in for some breathing concerns that had started an hour before I got him immediately into the vet. They gave him the CONVENIA injection and sent me with antibiotics and steroids without giving me any of the risks of that shot for my cat and within an hour of coming home I found my cat dead !!!! They knew my cat had a grade 3 heart murmur and they did zero tests and now my one year old baby is gone....I contacted them and they have taken zero responsibility and have shown no care or compassion for his death or offered to help with the costs of anything for cremation services or refunds for medical procedures that killed my cat without due information provided or shared that should have been told to me STAY AWAY UNLESS YOU'RE INTERESTED IN LOSING YOUR PET -ALL THEY CARE ABOUT IS MONEY !!!! That CONVENIA injection shouldn't be used on cats there are articles about this injection that cats and dogs have reactions to it and that's what happened to my cat. There are other oral medicine that could of been used and this was a quick in and out appointment and he should of been watched and a different procedure should of been done I also was going to bring him to boundary bay for less the cost they were going to charge for a heart workup and a board specialist would of done it. That heart workup wasn't needed at the time because there were no signs

Best Veterinary clinic I have ever been to. Treat your animals with genuine care and love. Having moved recently and without a vet, my Boston Terrier was having an eye issue ...brought him to other vets that couldn’t diagnose the problem. Kept sending me home with drops nothing else. After a month of repeated visits to another vet we decided to get a second opinion from Aldor Vet. Upon meeting Dr. Christiane Pfaender she did a thorough examination of my dog and found what the other Dr.s had missed. Her bedside manner, respect and caring for my dog was something I have not seen from other vets. She talked to him the whole time and treated him like one of her own. Her staff go above and beyond and they are very fairly priced. After meeting her I will never go to another vet. They truly treat you like family and I am so happy we found them. My dog Sir Bentley a 9 year old Boston could not be happier either. Great care. Highly recommend!!!

My cat was due for a second set of shots and when the appointment was made she quoted $50. I got my wife to do off the cat and they added a bunch of other non necessary things to upsell to $150. Hope they're happy, they won't see any of my animals now.
