How to Save Money at North Burnaby Pet Hospital Ltd
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Amazing Care and Support! Yesterday was Sunday and I had a very stressful situation where my two cats went missing. My vet, Dr Matin along with their wonderful spouse and colleague, went above and beyond to help me search for them. Not only did they spend hours walking around with me, but they also printed and distributed posters, all in an effort to bring my cats home safely. Their kindness and dedication were beyond anything I could have expected. Thankfully, my cats were eventually found at home, but I can’t thank them enough for their support and reassurance throughout this ordeal. If you’re looking for a team that truly cares about both pets and their owners, I highly recommend them! Thank you so much indeed, you are the best.🌸🌸🌸

This past weekend while on a routine walk, I noticed my dog, Cujo, had a massive gaping wound above his hind leg. My regular vet is closed on weekends, so I looked up vets in the area and North Burnaby Pet Hospital showed up. I immediately called them, explained the situation, and was told I could bring him in right away. When Dr. Imani took a look, he explained the severity of the situation and advised that he would need anesthetized surgery so they can properly clean and close the area. He thoroughly explained everything that would be done and drafted an estimate for me before consenting to anything (not that the price mattered considering my dog's health was the most important thing, plus I have pet insurance). Once everything was consented to, I was allowed to stay with Cujo until he dozed off (something I've never been allowed to do with my regular vet), which added an extra layer of comfort for me. I was called during the procedure and advised that the wound was quite infected and asked if I would consent to a bacterial culture. Dr. Imani also took photos for me so I could see the severity of the damage, which was very much appreciated. My boy did very well, I was given detailed instructions on his aftercare which included three different medications and two follow up visits (a drain removal, and a two-week post-op check-up). The clinic stayed open past their normal time just to properly care for my pup, the service was absolutely incredible, and the staff treated my boy as if he was their own. I can't say enough great things about this place and the care we received. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I have been bringing my cats here for the past 5 years, always trusting the previous vet who owned the clinic. On my last visit, I saw Dr. Matin Imani who recently took over, and unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. During the checkup, the vet recommended an expensive tooth extraction for my cat, claiming her gums looked irritated. He went on to say that a potential infection could even spread to her kidneys, which felt like an attempt to scare me. He completely disregarded my comments that my cat hasn’t shown any signs of pain or discomfort, and that she’s had a broken tooth for many years with no previous vet ever recommending this procedure. When I expressed hesitation, Dr. Imani brought up a case where a dog had cancer, and he reported the pet owner to the SPCA for refusing treatment. This felt like a threat or, at the very least, unnecessary pressure. I felt his approach was more about pushing costly procedures than genuinely caring for my pets' well-being. I won’t be returning and would advise others to proceed with caution.

We have 3 pets , 2 dogs and a cat , and dr.Imani and the clinic crew care for all the animals at as if they are their own . We never been pushed to do any unwanted procedures unlike the review by Ana Luisa . They only want what’s best for the pets and you as pet owner should want the same as well . They are always responsive and help us with any concerns and questions we have . We trust Dr.Imani with our fur babies and we highly recommend him to everyone. Everyone at the clinic always make us feel at home and we know our fur babies are in great hands .
