How to Save Money at Capitol Hill Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Every single staff member at Capitol Hill is amazing and I honestly can't thank them enough for the care they provided during a very difficult time. We had been to other vets before but no one else showed the compassion and knowledge that Dr. Tso provided. My German shepard husky cross was ill and he really took the time to investigate what was going on, we never felt rushed at any of our appointments with Dr. Tso. He was very gentle with Loki and showed our boy nothing but love and respect. Unfortunately Loki was diagnosed with kidney cancer and passed two months after diagnosis. It was a very heartbreaking experience but I'm glad we had the staff at Capitol Hill by our side. The technicians and lovely staff at the front desk (I usually dealt with Sandra and Collette I believe) provided excellent care as well. You can tell they love our animals as much as we do and we were very thankful for their support. Nicole the technician really seemed to go out of her way for us and was super knowledgeable and kind, you can tell she is very passionate about her job. Thank you for all you do for our fur babies!

We needed a day of appointment and our usual vet was booked up for a couple days and we were able to book an appointment here for our kitten who had scratched/infected her eye. Staff were super nice and the veterinarian, Dr. Tso was very kind, gentle and informative. Went through each step with us and explained what he was doing and why. No crazy amounts of testing suggested, just straight to the point care and treatment!

By far the best animal hospital I've ever been to! I have both a hedgehog and a cat who have had their fair share of vet visits over the past few years. Dr. Chow and her staff are extremely knowledgeable, professional, and you can tell they all have a genuine love and passion for animals. Do your pets a favor and bring them here!

We have several ferrets. We had them checked up as routine and they were extremely knowledgeable, even the non-specified ferret staff. We suddenly had an emergency and had to go to a 24/7 emergency hospital where they did the first round of x-ray and diagnosis. They recommended us go to our regular vet for follow-up x-ray the next day (when we mentioned it was Capitol Hill they were very happy to hear that's where we take our ferrets). We called Capitol hill and they squeezed us in asap the that day. They kept us updated on EVERYTHING and gave us all our options and were very thorough and transparent. Dr. Chow was amazing through everything and so was the rest of the staff. Turns out our little Nero ate part of a ball which needed surgery and it went fantastic. Gave us quite the scare. We even got the part of the ball back, haha!! During his recovery they checked in with us often and made things very convenient for us by email! Extremely thankful this clinic exists, I couldn't have asked for a better clinic. Thank you Capitol Hill!

My second time bringing in my gerbils for a wellness check. Since I am still new to owning gerbils, Dr. Chow patiently answered all my questions. She was friendly and handled the gerbils with lots of care. I will try to take my gerbils there again for their wellness checkup next year.
