How to Save Money at Kensington Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

If I could give more than 5 stars I would, as someone who's worked in the vet field i've seen first hand how vets can charge you so much more than needed. I brought my puppy here when she had diarrhea, the vet was extremely gentle with her as she was nervous, he was up to date on the current practices and didn't up charge me for unnecessary tests. Recently I brought my cat here, he was blocked. When i told them I was unable to pay the amount for the initial estimate the vet went back to bring the amount down to something more feasible and they weren't judgemental at all. everything done they thoroughly explained to me. The techs and everyone else who works there has been nothing but sweet to me and my pets. The vet personally called me with an update and with every visit i've always had a follow up call next day to check in and see how my pet is doing. This is one of the only vets i've been too that I feel actually cares about the animals and is not in it just for the money

I was not able to get into my original vet last minute but needed to see someone for my kitty who had an infection in a previous wound. I was able to get in last minute for an appointment here and I wish I did not take it. The experience of my 8 minutes in the examination room left me in tears and my cat terrified and in pain. I explained to the vet she was in pain and to be gentle. He was not gentle. At all. By any means. He grabbed onto her wound so tight she hissed and swatted and she has never done that before: she was crying and it hurt her so badly. He did it once more and then I decided we had to go to another vet as I was not allowing them to continue to treat my cat in this way. They offered an antibiotic shot that I refused. He then made me sign the paper stating I was not accepting the treatment. He had SO many unnecessary add on for her treatment of an abscess totalling over $1400 in treatment. I had to pay $79 for coming into the room and having him be unfair to my kitty. I went to mountside animal hospital. There emergency fee is $200. Which I would gladly pay anytime for the attention they gave my kitty. They did not have to sedate her. They shaved her area. Flushed her out. And gave her antibiotics and pain medicine. While she sat calmly. No hissing or swatting or crying. The way a vet should treat your animals. My total bill was $360 including the emergency fee of $200. This vet is careless and they do not clearly care about your animals. I would never trust them to touch my animals again. And I DEEPLY regret paying the $79 for the 8minutes of him doing absolutely nothing but scaring my kitty.

Was able to get a same day appointment for my dog here on a Sunday, when our regular vet was closed. My dog had an eye infection which needed prompt treatment. The staff were helpful and the doctor was very friendly and kind to my pup. He did a thorough examination, provided a quote for the suggested treatments before proceeding, and explained everything that was done. I have been to a number of vets in the Lower Mainland and was pleasantly surprised with my experience here. Thank you Kensington Animal Hospital for the excellent care!

All the vet techs were so great!!! The vet was nice and clearly an animal lover Update: had to come here for my kitties back issues and they were so prompt and friendly on the phone. Dr. Sindhu called me personally to update me. I also really like how he calls the pets baby like “Gus baby”🥺 The results were thorough and staff are always so incredible!
