How to Save Money at Family Pet Hospital & 24 Hour Pet Emergency Centre
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
I cannot say enough great things about this clinic. In times of emergencies and in times of non-emergencies, this clinic has been phenomenal to my animals and me. I think the costs are actually more reasonable that most local vet clinics and the services offered are tremendous. I very much appreciate having a dedicated team available 24 hours a day and I am willing to pay an emergency premium for that as the alternative to having no place to go is very real (as almost no clinics offer after hours emergency service anymore). The cost of x-rays and blood work is actually cheaper than my former local vet clinic and I find the vets are extremely knowledgeable as they have to deal with such a large load of critical, time sensitive issues. I have three sweet dogs and each one has received exceptional care, in fact, my sweet old boy (Pug X) was deemed palliative by another well intentioned vet clinic and I took him to Dr. Manoj Thomas for a second opinion on the advice of my sister, I am happy to say months later he enjoying life still - healthy, happy, and wagging his tail thanks to a thorough assessment that found he wasn't as sick as we thought. I respected that Dr. Thomas was willing to try different things and was thorough without running unnecessary expensive tests. He respected me enough to explain everything in detail and it was clear he has a true passion for animals. He has been my sister's vet and done remarkable things for her pugs including complex abdominal surgeries and cared for them through challenging medical crises. As a nurse, I have great appreciation for his surgical skills, my sister's pug barely looked as if she had undergone surgery and the incision was exceptionally well done. She healed so well! Dr. Chinju Johnson helped me with my rat terrier who was experiencing several issues such as hair loss (rat tail), fatigue, urination issues, and tummy lumps. She was patient, thoughtful, and thorough in her assessment. I found that she was considerate of costs and not over reactionary. She kept me abreast of everything and I felt very included in his treatment plan and decisions. I really liked her gentle style and my anxious dog seemed very receptive to her care (something that is not typical for him). Dr. Mason Lowe and Dr. Amy Lister took care of my Frenchie bulldog puppy when he suffered a complex break to his elbow just last week. They were incredible in a stressful situation and I felt they really cared about my little guy and his pain. He was kept overnight and in the morning we went to Calgary for surgery. He didn't seem upset at all when I picked him up in the morning and was even licking at the vet techs in a loving way. (it might have been the methadone, but he truly did seem to enjoy his time with them despite the broken arm lol) The support staff were also exceptional, especially helping me figure out insurance. Mikala (who was new) was incredibly friendly and helpful and made me feel respected and valued as a customer, Aleah was kind and explained everything very well, and Amber RVT went above and beyond to make sure everything was entered in for insurance properly and that I understood what was happening with my puppy when he stayed overnight. Lauren RVT was also very nice and gentle with my puppy. Every time I have gone to this clinic, there are tragic things happening in the background yet the entire staff show up with compassion, patience, kindness, and passion for the animals they serve. I highly recommend this clinic - they are true life savers.

Dr. Border has been absolutely great in helping my cat and I through an absolute horrible ordeal. She is caring and compassionate with my girl, and very informative on what’s going on and how we are going to correct it. I came in on a Sunday as an emergency and fully expecting to be gouged financially however that was far from the case. My beautiful cat is now doing much better she’s home and almost back to her self. I highly recommend going to this vet if you’re in a pinch or if you’re not. My cat and I are using Dr. Border as our full time vet now. I feel comfortable around her but more importantly my cat is at ease in her presence. Professional staff and facility.

I took my cat Nova here to get fixed. Dr Chinju Johnson was the veterinarian that did the work! my cat healed so well, and her scarring was MINIMAL. I’m so grateful my cat had the care she received. I will be coming here for all her needs☺️

We had a great experience with this pet hospital, particularly Dr Mason and his team. Our cat George had developed a urinary blockage and subsequently had a cardiac arrest, he received cpr at another clinic and was revived. He was subsequently transferred to the pet hospital for management. When he arrived at the pet hospital Dr Mason explained everything in detail, and set clear expectations (the risk of surviving being just 5-10%), this allowed us to comprehend the gravity of the situation. They put him under oxygen, place the catheter bag, monitored his labs and vitals, gave him pain medications. In a surprise to everyone, George started to improve over the course of the night - I received play by plays from Dr Mason (both phone call updates, pictures of George and a video of him eating). Dr West took over the next morning but Dr Mason told me he would continue to follow George’s progression in the background from home. Dr Georgia subsequently took over, she used her personal time to answer all of my many questions. Overtime George continued to improve to the point of discharge, making this an unexpected success story. Following discharge Dr Mason called to check how he was doing and provide advice, and answer my (many) questions. I am forever grateful we transferred George to this pet hospital, he received great care and follow-up, and I know he would not have survived otherwise. Thank you!

We had an emergency with our small dog today, on Boxing Day. I called and they got us in immediately. The care and compassion shown to us by Dr. Georgia and staff was amazing. Even though we weren’t clients, we were treated with wonderful care for our pet. They certainly made our stressful visit easier. We can’t thank you enough for the wonderful work you do and helping us navigate this very sad day.
