How to Save Money at VCA Canada Calgary North Animal Hospital & 24 Hour Emergency Service
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
I dunno how anyone could give them a bad review. They are expensive but you pay for what you get! Start to finish they were incredible! Front desk and doctors everyone was so caring and helpful! They help you with payment options and make everything as easy as possible with your pets care as their number one focus. They explain everything very well and try to keep the cost at only what is really needed. I have no doubt Marshmellow received the best possible care and we took him to the right place. If you are worried about your pets health and not being about to afford it doesn't matter take them in! They will help you. I cannot thank them enough. It's rare to find such great care and as someone that has a family member that runs their own veterinarian clinic in Manitoba I greatly appreciate great service. A medical emergency is always very scary! Please remember to treat the staff kindly regardless of the situation.

From the emergency phone call with the receptionist, to the moment we left the hospital, the service was exceptional. The staff were very quick to help our senior dog, and the Veterinarian who was available was amazing to talk with and provided us with a diagnosis we were not expecting. He was so empathetic to our situation and treated our sweet boy like his own. In a time of grief, the staff were also very empathetic and didn't rush us when we said goodbye. When it was time to pick up his ashes, the amount of care and love that went into it, I will forever be grateful for. The little 'extras' that went into our experience may have been minor for them, but they didn't go unnoticed by our family. Thank you for providing our sweet boy with comfort and love before his passing, our family is so thankful ❤️

Words cannot describe how grateful I am for Dr. Amy, Dr. Barton, Leanne, and all the other wonderful staff at this clinic who worked tirelessly to save my rabbit when she arrived in critical condition. Their knowledge, dedication, and care saved her life. They were also infinitely patient and compassionate towards me (who was an emotional mess the entire time). Very reasonable and transparent with their costs. I wish I could thank you guys enough!

We had to bring our dog into the vet after he got into some raisins late on a Saturday night. He ended up staying for 4 nights hooked up to IV. As awful as it was to leave our dog there we felt so assured that he was receiving the best care. The vets/staff are knowledgeable, kind, personable and it felt like they genuinely cared about the well being of our dog. Thank you VCA Calgary North for helping Hank get better and easing his/our anxiety.

I recently took my cat here twice as he was having urinary tract problems. The staff and doctors were very helpful and the pricing is reasonable compared to other emergency hospitals. I had also taken my 18 year old cat here when it was time, and they handled it with kindness and respect. I would definitely recommend for emergency services in north Calgary.
