How to Save Money at Little Creek Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have been going here for years with my dogs. Always pleasant and helpful front desk staff. The Dr's are very special. They show so much care for your pet, and for you! We have had them go out of their way to research and find better ways of helping our medically challenged dog. Thanks Dr. Natasha! Very happy to have found this vet clinic that was recommended to us after an emergency visit at Fish Creek. The 2 clinics work together to make sure your pet is doing well!

I have been to a few vets, and I have come to learn that they are either in it for the money or for the well being of the animals. Little creek and the vets that work here really are exceptional! I have many fur children but my senior cat was here quite frequently for her health issues, nail trims, ect. They knew her so well they nicknamed her "spicy grandma" and I loved that! It's taken me a year and a half to write this as it still really effects me.. but unfortunately my spicy grandma's time was up, and just shy of her 23ed birthday. I called them an hour before close and asked if I could bring her in to cross the rainbow bridge as i didn't want to take her to an emergency vet. I live in Okotoks so I didnt get there till 30 min before close. They let me take all the time i needed to say goodbye, they stayed after hours for over an hour just for me. And I am forever grateful for that, and as im here in tears writing this, just know the team here has left an impression on my heart that ill never forget.

Extremely satisfied coming to this clinic! The front desk staff were friendly and Dr. Dani was very informative with providing us all the information that makes the most sense for us regarding surgery for our dog while making us feel super comfortable with our decision to move forward. Highly recommend:)

We had wonderful experience with Little Creek Vet Clinic! We brought our bull-dog, Lucy, for a checkup because we had concerns about her teeth. Dr. Steele was amazing to deal with! She connected with our dog and Lucy felt very comfortable around her. Lucy required cleaning and teeth extractions. They gave us a quote and they did their best to stick to it. The communication was outstanding! Dr. Steele called us to update on how things were going during the procedure day. The office also made sure to follow up with us the following day to make sure Lucy was ok. The key points why I would 100% recommend this clinic is: caring, knowledgeable staff, honoring the quote and amazing communication.

My Olde English Bulldog was diagnosed with bone cancer. It was through another vet clinic. That clinic unfortunately had a very disrespectful veterinarian. My cousin was taking care of my pup as my building I had to move into wouldn't accept her. After his experience with that clinic I had the x-rays sent over to this clinic which I used to trust. They reviewed the x-rays and request more x-rays and an examination. I said okay. 20 minutes later I asked to talk to the vet to see what the best option was, if it was worth putting her through more stress. It was 2:50 in the afternoon when I called. They said the vet was gone for the day and they would call me in between the appointments the next day. I never received a phone call. I called them on a Thursday. I never recieved a call Friday, Saturday, Monday, Tuesday well all week. It really shows the care of their doctors. Unfortunately now, she is no longer with us. I horribly disappointed in this place. I feel all they care about is money now. I will discontinue bringing my Shiba Inu here and find a clinic that actually cares about dogs and not money.
