How to Save Money at Aspen Trails Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Exceptional care from Dr Horvath and her team. My only regret was that I didn’t hear about this clinic years ago! I had been taking our dog Harley to a different vet his entire life and had an unfortunate incident there which got me asking around for a new vet. My nieces highly recommended Aspen Trails and I can see why. So compassionate and caring and she really takes her time explaining everything. I never feel rushed and when I call with any questions or concerns they call me right back and reassure me. I honestly couldn’t be any more happy with the care we get and I only wish I had switched much sooner. Thank you for being so supportive and kind.

I took my senior dog to see Dr. Horvath yesterday. My dog has been experiencing hearing loss and I was becoming concerned. Dr. Horvath found black goop in her ear and cleaned it out and gave her some ear drops. She had great communication skills and explained everything very well. The vet tech who did my dog’s nail trim was fast and kind. Overall, it was a 5 star appointment and I look forward to taking my dog there again.

Roxy my little dog came to this clinic because of a vaccine reaction. Was never a client of theirs before but they treated my dog and me with upmost respect and care. I can not say anything bad about Dr. Horvath she is a wonderful vet and creates a caring and loving environment to not only her staff members but also the clients and animals that walk through the door. Well creating a professional environment. Thank you Aspen Trails.

This is absolutely insane! I dropped my dog off here and have been waiting for the paw prints for a month now. I called, and they said they sent them to my old address, even though I provided my new one. They told me the only thing I can do is ask the current residents of my old house if they received them. I did that, and they didn't get them either. This is just outrageous! I had to go in to pick up the ashes anyway they should have included the prints with the ashes!

I took my cat here a few weeks ago and I was very upset with the service we received. My cat had a bloated belly and the vet completed a physical exam on him and said he seemed fine and asked if I wanted to do other tests. I asked what tests he would recommend and he said “it’s up to you”. I then asked again for his recommendation and options and he said “he seems fine, but you can’t trust my hands”. I explained my frustration stating that he is the expert in this situation so guidance would be appreciated but his response was “the bloating could be anything from him gaining weight, eating, or other diseases”. He sent me home with a stomach reliever and I ended up going to the emergency vet clinic that night and it turned out he had cancer. I will not be returning to this clinic as I left with 0 confidence that the vet had any knowledge when he said “you can’t trust my hands” and said my cat was bloated cause he might have gained weight.
