Best Pet Decision Ever

We are so glad we got pet insurance! Vet visits are not cheap but are necessary. We have been so impressed by how easy it is to file a claim and how quickly ASPCA Pet Insurance completes the claim and reimburses us. We’ve filed claims for regular visits as well as emergency care and have never had a problem. It is such peace of mind to know our dog is covered when something comes up.

Dishonest

We have had a good experience for the last two years until now. The last two years our claims were insignificant amounts and Pets Best had no issues paying out. This last month our dog needed knee surgery which from diagnostics to post op follow ups is over $7k. They denied our claim based on our dog having had knee surgery on his other knee 3 years prior. I spoke with a representative over the phone on choosing the correct coverage with full disclosure of previous knee surgery and other preexisting conditions. The representative told me which coverage to get and that his knee would be covered if God forbid he needed it. So here we are stuck with this medical bill and not even the initial diagnostics to determine what was wrong with his limb was not even covered. Pets Best is a waste of time and money since they will not pay out for bigger claims. I’m very disappointed!

Always a catch

I’ve had this insurance for one of my dogs for years. They don’t pay for exams yet their premiums are no different than other insurance companies. They refused to pay a claim stating it was wellness that I submitted as there was a possibility of parasites again. I filed an appeal and they still refused. I’m just not sure pet insurance is worth it anymore. They always find a way to deny claims. I would not recommend this company.

We’re sorry for any confusion with your claim. Your claim was denied under the wellness exclusion. Since the invoice only noted a parasite exam without any medication, without clarification it appeared to be wellness related. A member of our Customer Care Team replied to your email on 7/10 noting that if you would like to have the claim reviewed, we would need medical records from that visit. We never received a response, nor were records submitted. As such an appeal case was not started. We are happy to take a second look at this claim for you if you simply provide either the date of service examination notes for the test or a letter of clarification from your veterinarian. The examination fee is a plan exclusion and as such is not eligible for coverage. We strive to be completely transparent about this exclusion and our entire policy. Information about this is available prior to and after enrollment via the Frequently Asked Questions on our website and in our online sample policy.

Used to be decent

I’ve had Pets Best for many years with my dogs. They always processed their claims within 10 days. Now it takes about 39 days to process claims. They claim approval rate isn’t bad but the turn around time is unacceptable. Avoid if you can

Paid Claims on Site in 5 Minutes

Trupanion has been so fantastic to work with! Our vet recommended Trupanion when I asked her opinion on various pet insurance companies. The vet's office process the insurance claim on the spot and Trupanion pays their portion of the bill right then. The last two times, they paid 5 minutes after receiving the claim. I even get text alerts that they are reviewing the claim and again when their portion of the payment has been sent. I love that I don't have to pay up front and wait to be reimbursed. I highly, highly recommend Trupanion pet insurance!

Time for a new insurance provider

I’ve used Trupanion for a few years now and up until now I’ve always appreciated their quick payments, never had a payment come more than a week after filing a claim. That all changed with my most recent claim. Claim was filed on June 6, and was finally approved for payment on July 9. Previously all I needed to submit was the invoice from the vet (Vet was great BTW), this time they requested additional information to prove the bill was paid. This was 2 weeks after I submitted my initial claim. I submitted my credit card statement showing payment. Another 2 weeks go by and I was asked who the payment should go to, me or the vet. I would assume the initial credit card statement would have been enough to show the payment should go to me. I submitted another credit statement, and then finally received approval for payment a few days later. My other issue is that I initially brought my dog to the vet to have a foxtail removed from his nose. I figured since they were going to put him under for that to go ahead and have a small mass in his mouth removed as well. When I received my approval for payment I see that they used the $200 deductible twice! Once for the foxtail and once for the mass removal. It was all one procedure, why the double deductible? Like the title states, it’s time to search for a new pet insurance provider.

So far, very good

MET Pet has been great. A couple of general suggestions - 1. If you can, get insurance when your pet is under 1 year. 2. Always provide vet's notes when you submit your claim. 3. Purchase the preventive option if you can afford it. This will encourage you to keep up to date on all preventive care.

1st time submitting a claim

Once I learned what a SOAP note was and got that filed the claim was relatively easy. Two phone calls and both reps were pleasant and fun to work with.

Certainly Didn't Take the Sting out of an Unfortunate Situation

Our girl, unfortunately, got into a porcupine today (Saturday). We were able to find an emergency vet open about an hour away. We thought great it's only going to cost us the deductible, though still enough. When all was said and done, we thought Trupanion would be covering approximately $350 worth of the total - nope $96.93, barely the cost of a month's worth of insurance. We will be contacting Trupanion on Monday to confirm the expenses and their coverage.
