Horrible experience
Horrible experience. I purchased my pet's insurance on Sept 19. Gave my credit card information at that time and received an email confirmation with an invoice that I thought was simply a receipt. No where in that email does it say my credit card did not go through. On Oct 17th I received another invoice at 9pm EST. Then at 12am Oct 18th I receive a cancelation email. I reached out to customer service once I read the email and was told my card was not processed because of a bad security code. Okay. They made zero and I mean zero effort to regain my business. They even lied and told me that I was told that my card was not processed when I first signed up by email but the email mentions nothing about a problem processing my card.

Great service
I have a 9 year old rescue dog that has been covered through Healthy Paws since her adoption about 5 years ago. Since then she has been diagnosed with several mast cell tumors, myeloma, arthritis, and glaucoma, resulting in lots of vet visits, medications and surgeries. Throughout everything Healthy Paws has been very easy to work with in submitting a claim, quick in responding, and easy to understand in terms of what is covered and what is not. I'm so grateful to have pet insurance and Healthy Paws has saved me lots of money, and made me feel more comfortable in getting my pet the best healthcare!

Nationwide denies claims even for colds a stomach problems
I paid for the best insurance possible with nationwide to ensure i felt a sense of safety and security. I took my dog to the vet because he was having stomach issues and had a cold. We had to send his stool for testing and had a full medical exam to see what was up and he prescribed some medicine for us. This all cost me $450. Nationwide has a $250 deductible. I was expecting $200 back and they sent me $6 saying his cold and stomach issues were a pre-existing condition they wouldn't cover. What a sense of shock and disappointment that a vet visit suddenly cost me so much money. Nationwide made me go through a dispute process and still denied my claim despote the vet saying as well it was a in the moment stomach bug and cold. He's a 8 month old puppy! Terrible pet insurance company. Avoid at ALL COSTS!

So far I had to wait 5 days before someone actually responded to my email. I tried to call and just to get a person on the phone is challenging when you have to keep hitting button after button. I was on the phone for like 10 mins trying to get a person on there and I still got the automated message, at which I hung up. So far that’s the experience I have had. Submitted my claims 10/14 so waiting now to see if they get approved. To be continued….

Health Crisis Hits, Trupanion Stands with Us!
Friday, September 23rd, my 14 yr old Papillon was not his happy self. Early next day, I zipped him to the vet for some labs, kidney numbers were off. Monday & Tuesday he had had IV fluid therapy and repeat labs were worse. My local vet suggested considering dialysis. We were calling all over to inquire who provided what services and where to travel urgently. I called Trupanion from my car, to see if I could get help immediately, not knowing why this was happening to my boy. We're both seniors and don't hike far from home. The Trupanion representative immediately understood my grief. She asked if he had been tested for lyme or leptospirosis, as she was a retired vet tech with 29 yrs experience and commented she had often seen rapid kidney decline in pets exposed to both illnesses. I called inside the vet office and they said they could do a rapid test for both as they were getting Dandie off the IV so I could transport him. With minutes, we learned he was postive for Leptospirosis. Wow! What were the chances a conversation with another animal lover, miles away, would net a direct diagnostic hit? I emailed the speciality internal medicine practice in Aurora, Illinois that we normally travel to, 94 miles away, in critical times. They responded a new dialysis unit & specialist was now available in Downers Grove, Illinois, still over an hour & a half away, but I redirected. Once arriving there early evening, my Papillon was attended too promptly. The estimate for dialysis and consequent ICU hospitalization was staggering. I tearfully called Trupanion again. Trupanion escalated Dandie's claim for priority preapproval due to the nature of his treatment, level of care and within an hour, they committed to $24,685.85 on the high end. My son, a nurse practioner in LA told me to move forward with a postive mindset! We love little Dandie so much, it was shocking that he got so sick, so fast, under close watch. My son booked me a hotel room nearby the speciality hospital. Dandie has improved with dialysis almost, immediately. Only after much supportive care, medications, Etube feedings and around the clock care, in ICU for 7 days, he was discharged to home. Trupanion paid within hours of his discharge, a sum of $21,706.07 on this initial claim. I am able to continue his prescribed tube feedings, numerous antibiotics, other medications to encourage his interest in eating and sustain him with additional fluids via the Etube while he continues to recover. Additional lab rechecks are done and diet modification as we progress. Those follow up visits are also covered at 90% and with Trupanion direct billing available at this speciality hospital in Downers Grove, Illinois, I am able to provide the very best of care to Dandie while managing my budget too. Traveling isn't easy, but hearing him bark and seeing his progress, eating and running along with his flowing wagging tail is another reminder of why this pet coverage is invaluable. It is truly illness and accident coverage for the life of your companion pet. I am grateful for the many wonderful people that represent Trupanion on the phone, 100's of miles away. I am especially grateful for the retired vet technician who now working for Trupanion had compassion as caregiver that extended over and above call of duty that day, when she suggested rapid testing for lepto and lyme. When the PCR test arrived postive for Lepto 5 days later, Dandie was already in good hands with true possibilities for recovery. I highly recommend Trupanion Insurance to every pet guardian.

October 18 2022 I attempted to register my pet insurance policy which proved be a bit difficult. If it’s this difficult to register I’m thinking it will be equally difficult to file a claim
