Great customer service and stand by their pet insurance plans.

Great customer service and stand by their pet insurance plans. When my dog passed away they even sent a hand written card. My cat and new puppy have Trupanion insurance as well.

I have been a customer for over six…

I have been a customer for over six years and did not have any problems with submitting claims. That is until this year when I had to submit a claim for surgery for my port to fix his ccl. All of a sudden the claim was denied and excuses were made saying documentation does not exist and were missing even though the vet had sent them multiple times. It has been over three months and I still have to resubmit the same documents. Unacceptable response from them.

Just as Bad as People Insurance

Pets Best is no different than your typical human health plan. They offer limited coverage amounts for SOME needs, with categories quickly meeting their limit (even for a healthy pet!). We're in the process of getting our 18-month-old Newfie spayed. I say "in the process" because when we brought her in on the day she was to have the procedure the vet ran pre-op blood work and determined she had a low platelet count. We postponed the operation until we could determine the cause. Suspecting it was Lyme, the vet tested. Negative. They ran a few other tests to determine the cause. While we waited a few days for the results, I submitted the claim to Pet's Best. Two weeks later they finally responded of the $300+ bill they covered $30. The items for which the vet billed us either weren't covered by our policy (we have both Best Wellness and BestBenefit plans), or we had reached the maximum allowable limit for the particular service. The allowable limits are laughably low ($70 for blood tests), so those get burned through pretty quickly. Like most insurance companies, Pet's Best uses that infuriating language that's unique to their industry. Co-pay, co-insurance, deductible, etc. This is maddening when you're just trying to get some help with your pet's well-being and you're stymied by what the documentation says. I'm convinced the real problem with healthcare in our country, be it for people or pets, isn't the providers. It's the insurance companies. We're scheduled to have her spay done in about a month. We'll see if Pet's Best will pay out the whopping $150 they say they'll cover for a spay. We'll still have to pay close to $1000.
