My dog developed pneumonia after aspirating on her own vomit, and they claimed it was a pre-existing condition
Picked up Trupanion for my then five year old dog in 2021. Never used it until March 17, 2023 when my dog aspirated on her own vomit and developed pneumonia and it was clearly marked in the doctors notes. This is what I had insurance for.. I deliberately chose an animal Hospital that would accept my insurance. The total bill was $2481.01 and I paid my $1000 deductible. 1481.01 was left, and Trupanion denied my claim citing pre-existing condition… my dog is never aspirated on her vomit or had pneumonia before. What a disgrace. And I don’t need any response from them. I’m not interested in their words I want to see them step up and pay 80% of the bill like they claim to under my policy. This website won’t even let me put the correct date in this happened March 17, 2023.

Great Experience with Healthy Paws!
Last week I submitted a claim for a cat ER service; HealthyPaws provided super fast claim review and reimbursement (all within 48 hours); and also great customer support! I would recommend it if you have a need for fast claim processing.
Poor website design, poor customer service
There are a lot of issues with the site- a major one is that the sign-in page breaks. Custom service is not helpful when this happens. Explanations on why claims are rejected is not good.

Embrace Gives Peace of Mind
The claims procedure couldn't have been easier. You just submit the vet bill and a reason for the visit. We have a dog and two cats. Over the last few years we have submitted minor claims which were always paid promptly. Then, in the Fall of 2022 one our cats went into kidney failure. Our bill was $24K. After accounting for the co-pay (90%) and deductible ($500) Embrace promptly paid the claim. Needless to say we were delighted. The reason we got pet insurance is because in the past I've had to do the gut wrenching calculus of how much my pet's life is worth versus how much I can afford, and I never again want to be put in that position again.
