(Un)Trupanion - Next Level Scam Artistry
After 14 years of paying significant premiums with this company, I recently found out they were charging me almost double because my spayed female cat (named Marilyn) was mis-categorized as male. This resulted in significantly higher premiums over the course of 14 years. The company now refuses to reimburse any of the extra fees paid, claiming it was my fault for not noticing their error. Every single dealing with this company has been a battle. You are expected to be an expert-level diagnostician when making a claim, as virtually all issues are considered as 'new', meaning you will be subject to always paying your deductible, even if a condition was related to a previous claim. Every which way, this company has skewed things to their massive advantage. You don't stand a chance. The ONLY reason I am still with them is that after 14 years, I may actually be coming close to getting my premium coverage worth. Close. But what a struggle. They are masters at changing the game whenever it suits them/disadvantages you. Would never recommend them again.

DO NOT USE METLIFE
Ask your veterinarian for insurance providers that they have heard good reviews from their other patients. I sure wish I had done that before signing up with Metlife pet insurance! Spent hundreds of dollars and hours of time and could not get any of my specific questions answered.

Just signed up. Seems unethical to charge a premium during the wait period when there’s no coverage yet. And the wait period should only be a couple of days to prevent people from getting insurance after an accident happens. I’m worried something will happen to our dog during the 15 days of waiting.

Do not buy insurance from this company
Do not buy insurance from this company. Our dog pulled a muscle in her left leg and after taking a pain/anti-inflammatory medication was fine. A couple of months later she injured her right knee (equivalent of a torn ACL) that required surgery and they denied the claim, saying it was a preexisting condition - even though she had never had an issue with that leg.
