Rate increases just keep getting bigger

We thought we were happy with this insurance company. But just found out that after 5+ years, they won't renew our policy. Your rates will also go up over $10 every year. If you use your policy because your dog has permanent health issues, you'll get moved off to another underwriting company.

They look for ways not to pay

Exactly what I feared would happen. You buy insurance and they find a way not to pay. I purchased insurance in good faith. I followed the waiting period. On the first day coverage went into effect, my dog was diagnosed as having swallowed a foreign object. I did not wait to have my dog seen by the vet - I did not try to wait out the waiting period. You don't plan for this sort of thing and buy insurance weeks in advance. The claims were denied because I told my vet my dog had a runny nose and eye discharge 2 days prior to the diagnosis by a vet. In other words, my claims were denied because I, as a lay person, observed cold/flu symptoms. I did not say she was bloated, I didn't say her stomach was tender. No gastric issues were observed until the day coverage went into effect - she threw up. Any symptom will do to deny a claim. I believe a reasonable, non-veteranarian person would view the symptoms I saw as unrelated to a foreign object lodged in the small intestine. Luckily, the vet didn't rely on the symptoms I described. The customer service wasn't great either. You have to initiate the appeal via writing. They won't initiate an appeal for you or let you speak with a supervisor. I'll appeal, but my first encounter is exactly the opposite of the "Welcome to our Pet Family" message when I signed up and paid my premium. I do not believe they operate in good faith. Instead, they parsed the doctor notes and looked for a reason not to pay. Right now, I would advise a hard pass on this coverage.

First time having pet insurance and didn't compare

I having pet insurance is new for me. You do get responses but not via a phone call. I feel strongly that you should be able to talk to someone about questions. It's good customer service. There was some confusion over how my bills were being handled. In the end it worked out well. It was a lot of work on my end. More time is needed to tell if it will be a good fit for me. I recently had to put my 15 yr old dog down and she did have some health issues..I visited a rescue and after meeting a puppy of 3 months I decided to Adopt. Amanda M. spoke about the insurance, had a pamphlet, mentioned their would be a discount given if I purchased it as well as a portion that went to the facility. I didn't sign up right there. I had 24 hours to decide. I could add to a wellness package, change my deductible, etc. Puppies need several wellness visits and many vaccines. So that part isn't great. Example two Lyme boosters, two DHPP, two DHLPP, two Lyme, two Canine influenza and so on. Your payout is very limited that first year if you have a puppy The illness/ Injury package doesn't go into effect right away. You have to meet your deductible first. You can cancel at anytime. What I hope is that I at least get my monthly payout back by turning in receipts. All of these visits are expensive and in top your paying for insurance as well. The cap on wellness is $500 a year. It's great if you take your dog once for a wellness with vaccinations, Heart guard/ flea and tick, urine, heartworm test etc. I'll give it 4 stars but time is needed to tell.

First time opted to purchase pet insurance. Over thirty years paid many vet bills for cats. With two new purebred kittens researched many and chose Embrace. They are always there for you if you have to call. Website very easy to follow, submit claims, etc. They are proactive in handling of claims. Have had just six months and very pleased. Peace of mind is worth it. 10% off for add on pets.

poor support

I have had a pets best policy for only a few months and when my sweet kitty needed surgery I tried to connect with them to make sure it was covered. I’ve tried chatting, leaving them email messages, and tried calling and have not once spoken to a real person for help. It is interfering with my ability to make big decisions about my animal that I care for. Very frustrating. I will keep trying, but I will be cancelling soon if I can’t speak to someone.
