Our cat died and they increased our premium 40%

For the past year we have been extremely happy with our Embrace Pet Insurance. As a family with six cats, we were impressed with how quickly Embrace responded to emergencies once the initial claim is processed. When our beloved cat Rutabaga died, we were reimbursed nearly $9,000 of what turned out to be his end of life coverage fairly rapidly. Unfortunately, our experience renewing our insurance has not been similarly pleasant. We were shocked to find our policy had increased from $80 to $113 per month for 5 cats. The only claim we made (that was covered) was Rutabaga's inoperable tumor. We have spoken to customer service twice about this, and no one was receptive to our complaint – probably because it is obvious that we’d be on the hook for new pre-existing conditions if we were to change insurance providers. We strongly recommend thinking carefully about who you get your pet insurance from. The last thing we expected was our other cats’ premiums would increase so much after losing our Rutabaga.

Although my vet agreed that my dog was…

Although my vet agreed that my dog was injured in an accident, ASPCA Insurance decided to decline my claim. I am not sure how my dog tore a ligament through an illness, but that was the reason listed for the denial. She plays aggressively with our much larger dog, and clearly, she was hurt as a result. I am cancelling the insurance policies for both of dogs to try to offset some of the surgery expense. Overall, the people are very pleasant, but I prefer an insurance company that is willing to pay when it's their time.

Would Highly Recommend

I am so pleased with my experience with Embrace to date. Once the initial set up is done and the vets have all given the necessary information, the process with Embrace is so quick and efficient. The choice of plans is amazing. I would highly recommend.

Great Company

I have had embrace accident for 5 yrs. I never needed them until my dog got skin allergies about 3 yrs in. Then was diagnosed with a heart defect at 4.5 yrs. I would never been able to afford her surgery without them. They were awesome, and my baby is healthy and happy at 5 yrs old.

The Fine Print

It's really unfortunate my pet became ill shortly after I switched insurance providers, essentially disqualifying him from all future claims. I'm mainly to blame for not reading the fine print and keeping my old policy during the waiting period (if that's allowed), but here's what I could have reasonably expected. 1. A shorter review period: It took over two weeks to hear back when the date alone should have resulted in a denial of the claim in an automated way. 2. Clearer disclosure of terms: The policy effective date isn't when policy coverage actually starts. It starts 15 days following. For joint related issues it starts 6 months following. I put in a lot of time to put the claim documentation together and didn't expect to be over 4000 dollars behind after waiting. Ideally the portal shouldn't have even let me submit. There should also be an initial option selection for joint health related claims when filing within 6 months of signup where the portal automatically denies the claim. At the very least that information should be presented in a clear way upon sign-up. Given their response to my inquiry, any clinical symptom during the waiting period can be associated with any later health condition, disqualifying coverage. In my case, my pet having an upset stomach and potential immune condition or arthritis got grouped into a health condition that can overlap with just about anything later. "A pre-existing condition is any medical condition which first occurred or showed clinical signs before the effective date of your policy or during the 15-day waiting period. (By "clinical signs," we mean any changes in your pet's normal healthy state, bodily functions or behavior.)"

Kyann was fantastic

Kyann was fantastic. She was informative, courteous, and patient with my questions. Thank you for having such a valuable employee. Only one issue, I discovered after our call that my premium went from $40 to $54 on my pet Chase. This was not mentioned to me during out phone call. I am concerned.

You overpromise and under deliver

You overpromise and under deliver. By design. For profit. Your customers' pet's well-being is not your highest priority. Maximizing your profits is. It is your entire busines model, in fact. Everything else is marketing and PR. Our pets are very important to us. You guys are soul-less business & law school predators. Sleep well.

First Time Claim Was Very Smooth!

This was the first time I submitted a claim. Doing so online was very fast and easy. Once submitted, the Embrace team sent me regular updates about the process of reviewing the claim and I felt well-informed all the way to claim settlement, which was done very quickly. A very smooth experience!
