6+ Years with Healthy Paws and Very Pleased!

I have had Healthy Paws for my pets for close to 7 years now. We have a $500 deductible and 90% reimbursement rate. In 2020, my long haired dachshund landed herself in the ER when her gums turned blue and she collapsed. The vet bill turned out to be somewhere around $3,500. HP reimbursed to the levels I stated above and I could not have been happier. As they tried to figure out what caused my dog to collapse, they wanted to order more tests, and I gladly said yes knowing I had such great coverage for her. Next up, my cat developed heart disease at the relatively young age of 2 and had to get regular cardio exams and medications. HP was great here too, as we hit our $500 deductible each year and then I’d receive reimbursements for the services my cat needed that went above this cost. In September 2023, my other dachshund became paralyzed and had to undergo emergency spinal surgery for IVDD. This is the main reason I got pet insurance in the first place. Since then, my dog recovered well, and then herniated another disc, had surgery again, and HP reimbursed to our levels BOTH times. The surgeries were pretty much life saving for my dog, as the chances of her walking again without either surgery was extremely low. In my policy, HP does not cover wellness exams or specialty vet exams, and the cost has increased somewhat every year. Even with these two points, I am still confident in my choice and repeatedly pleased with the service we have from HP Paws. I’m so SO thankful that I can continue to provide the best medical care to my pets knowing that I have a policy with this company. Thank you Healthy Paws.

I am giving two stars only because each…

I am giving two stars only because each time I spoke to someone they were polite and professional. I started our insurance for our seven year old healthy Yorkshire Terrier we rescued at age 3. He has no “existing illnesses.” As was established by his Veterinarian. One time in March of 2023 I had to take him to Michigan State University Emergency services veterinary clinic for vomiting and diarrhea. Possible pancreatic attack for eating a piece of fatty lamb. The only time ever that we had him he had had an illness. Fast forward to a visit to a Florida resort where there was a canine viral thing going around the resort and everyone’s dog was getting ill including finally my Levi. Now the second time he was ill ever. I rushed him to the local VET ER and thousands of dollars later they stabilized him. The vet told me herself it was not pancreatitis. After a painful series of emails once I put in my claim for that Florida ER visit and Embrace becoming hyper focused on the ER visit to MSU I said to my husband they are going to deny the claim. They started asking for the MSU “notes” a YEAR ago. Levi had never been sick with ANYTHING else but they were laser focused on that visit to Michigan State. Sure enough, claim denied. Why? My Florida ER medical papers listed as one “possible” cause (which was a generic code given for all stomach issues) was pancreatic issues. Therefore since my claim occurred April 2024 and wasn’t 1 full year without Levi ever having vomiting or diarrhea that meant he had a “pre-existing condition.” Claim denied.” Even though this was NOT a pancreatic attack conclusively determined by any of the testing done. In addition Embrace went through Levi’s records and gave me a new laundry list of “pre-existing conditions” they would not cover going forward. His knees, teeth and a whole host of other problems they dreamed up. Yeah. I canceled. BTW. This Claim happened in April it took over a month of haggling —back and forth emails—having to call them immediately “or your claim could be held up” and bothering both Michigan State University -which my dog saw only one time and my other vet. They looked for ANY reason not to settle the claim as it was thousands of dollars and found their reason. Do not bother with them. Polite but they don’t pay out.
