IT JUST TAKES ONE THING TO HAPPEN...

I have had my pup Shelby insured with Trupanion since she was about 1.5 years old. She is now almost 10. Through the years it's been nice to know I had some level of insurance for the "what if's", even though her premiums felt, at times, hard to swallow. There were a few times in the past I considered canceling her policy because she was doing great and was so healthy. But in a conversation with a friend, she reminded me to remember that when it comes to health, "it only takes one event to realize how important insurance is"... so took that to heart and kept Shelby's policy for the "what if" For Shelby, that event happened in June 2022. She was diagnosed with cancer in her front leg. Over the course of the summer, Shelby endured three surgeries, and two weeks of radiation treatments at WSU Veterinary Medicine in residence at the veterinary hospital. Trupanion was there right from the get go....helping me with the costs of her care so I could focus on her. Trupanion reimbursed me very efficiently, and was continuously supportive through the whole experience. I can't tell you how relieved I felt to know, Trupanion was there. Shelby is still being monitored for metastatic disease and new masses, and Trupanion has carried her the entire way, covering 90% of all the expenses. I am so grateful. Thank you. This review has been a long time coming. If you are considering pet insurance, and are hesitant over premium costs, I'd encourage you to to think about the "what if". It only takes once...one thing... to realize how valuable this insurance is for your four footed compainon's health.

Denied routine care in spite of yearly allowance.

I purchased this insurance through Progressive for my cat and made sure to get a plan that covered teeth cleanings. It came time to bring my cat in for a teeth cleaning, and the vet found brand new dental issues (tooth re-absorption) that required extractions as they are quite painful for cats. The bill ended up being quite expensive surprise. When I submitted it to ManyPets, they denied everything, including the cleaning that my plan explictly covers $150/year for, on the grounds that my cat had evidence of gingivitis (what cat doesn't) so therefore the brand new tooth reabsorption was a pre-existing condition. My vet put together a very well evidenced rebuttal proving that the tooth reabsorption was a new issue, unrelated to the gingivitis, that no one had known about (again, this happened during a teeth cleaning visit). ManyPets response was to cover the $150 for the cleaning they initially denied, and nothing else. I do not recommend this insurance and am very frustrated that Progressive recommended it to me. It's one thing to deny claims for frivolous reasons, it's another to deny routine care that do not come with any conditions on the contract. I will be changing providers as soon as my term is up.
