I love having Trupanion
I love having Trupanion, which I've used with a couple of my dogs, now going on the third one. Any time I've needed them, they have been there. I have had unbelievably expensive situations with "specialty" veterinary hospitals - and I've been both insured and uninsured. I learned my lesson. We hope and pray we won't need Trupanion, but thank God they are there if we do. At the rate veterinary care is going, pretty soon only wealthy people will be able to afford pets.

The process to file a claim is not that hard. Usually the only thing I have trouble with is logging in, I forget my password often. Embrace Pet Insurance is a good company, they have helped a few times. When ever I have to call them for help they are very courteous.

My only complaint is that for my dog's annual exam with vaccines, it cost me $175 but I only get reimbursed $100. Even after paying $60+/mo for 4 years!

Trupanion Reassesses Ailments As New Conditions to Have Deductible Applied Over and Over
If I could rate a zero, I would. I have a 14 year old flat-coated retriever that I have insured with Trupanion since she was 10 weeks old. We rarely submitted claims (and in 90% of the cases that we did, Trupanion just applied costs to the deductible and we did not receive any coverage), until our dog was 12 years old. While Trupanion states that the deductible for a given condition will be applied only once over the lifetime of the pet, that was not the case for me. My dog had a condition that appeared when she was 2 years old (we paid a deductible), when she was 4 years old (again paid a deductible) and most recently when she was 14 years old (and again had to restart the deductible). The term "chronic" condition was shared with me repeatedly. So, if you dog's condition is not chronic, but appears randomly (same symptoms, same treatment, same outcome), do not expect to be covered. Additionally, Trupanion is now delaying processing and payment of a claim for a condition that we have submitted and have covered for the last 2 years. Finally, Trupanion also increased our premium just after I submitted an appeal on the repeated deductible on a condition for which I have already paid. Please ensure that you consider other insurance providers when looking for coverage for your pet.

I filed a total of 14 claims
I filed a total of 14 claims, but they only paid out on a couple of them and only a small amount—$25 out of a $476 claim. I've been with them for two years and recently decided to cancel my policy. I pay over $125 monthly, but I've had no approved claims during this time. This is the worst pet health insurance; I wouldn’t recommend it because they don’t make any payouts!
