No regrets on choosing FIGO!
I researched pet insurance for the first time when I got my Shepherd/Pit mix puppy early last year because it was clear early on he was a power chewer. My black lab had been a similar chewer and experienced two major surgeries due to inappropriate 'gastronomic adventures', chewing up and eating a tennis ball and then part of a toy he had destroyed in record time. Dewy has not eaten any of his toys, but was diagnosed while still a young pup with hip dysplasia. FIGO has been great, helping us pay for his diagnostic tests, medications and physical therapy. Hopefully with the care we have been able to give him, surgery won't be needed, but if it is, we know that FIGO will be with us. The claim process is easy, communications quick and clear, and claims have been quickly closed. Couldn't ask for more!

Nationwide has saved the day on many occasions.
Our fur baby needed surgery and Nationwide was there to help cover the costs. Having pet insurance is one of the best decisions we have ever made.

make this company your last choice
Pros: - none that I could find after 2 1/2 years. I cancelled my insurance. Cons: - you have to call or email repeatedly on every issue (when you think it's resolved it reverts back to the original problem) - very slow in paying (up to 2 months) - they deny most claims (usually labelled as pre-existing) - most of their staff are not very helpful (the ones that are are great but they're far and few between) - the helpline is not 24/7 (Monday to Saturday during the day only) Insurance is a business. Businesses need to make money but customer service is equally as important. Pets + Us fails miserably in this area. Their culture is frustrate someone to no end with repeated email while doing nothing then take a long time reimbursing them. Make this company the last one on your list.

So grateful for Healthy Paws Insurance!
My dog torn his ligament in his hind leg, playing with another dog. We tried medication and rest. While this didn’t work, it was in his best interest to have surgery. I’m am so grateful to have this insurance! The process was simple, I was updated daily on the claim and the check came in the mail promptly. They also sent me a email, wondering how my boy was doing. Much appreciate for their thoughtfulness.

45% annual premium increases
We’ve had Healthy Paws for 10 months to cover our Golden Retriever puppy. Unfortunately, we’ve had to file a number of claims this year due to multiple UTIs and cases of giardia. We were shocked when we received notice that our premium was increasing 45% after our first year ($55/month to $80/month). Our neighbors have a two-year-old Golden Retriever (same breed, same zip code) and he was much healthier this year. Their Healthy Paws premium increase was only 14% ($48/month to $55/month). The Healthy Paws states that premium increases are based solely on breed, zip code and age, and not on claim submissions. Based on our experience this is clearly false marketing. I have been trading emails with them this week trying to understand how they justify a 45% increase, and I have only gotten generic responses to the effect of “increasing costs of new technology,” “advances in veterinary care”, and “changes in policies”. Conveniently, last week, they removed the line “Rest assured, we will never penalize you with higher rates for making claims” from the website. If you choose Healthy Paws and you need to file claims be prepared to be penalized with excessive annual increases. We had budgeted to spend about $650/year for pet insurance, and after a year to keep our same policy/coverage they expect us to pay almost $1,000/year.

Great service
Easy from start to finish. No run arounds and just a great pet insurance company. Who ever though anyone would say insurance companies are awesome? I didn’t. But ASPCA insurance sure is.

I am glad I purchased pet insurance from Nationwide
I have had pet insurance many years ago. I discontinued it because they never paid enough of the vet charges to equal the payment. This is my fourth dog of this breed and have never had an issue with hips or back. The vet assistant at the office was talking about pet insurance and how it has changed thru the years and she encouraged me to try it again. I purchased the insurance when my dog was a puppy. Sometime later maybe when he was about 2 yrs old, he started limping and after many doctors and specialists, we found out he had injured his hips and back and has arthritis. He is doing better now, but he needs ongoing care. Nationwide has paid many of my bills, which I was surprised about because of my past experience with pet insurance. I live the company so much, that I purchase a policy for my nephew's new puppy.

Trupanion will find any reason to not pay a claim and then not contact you
Last November our dog was having what appeared to to be stomach issues. Nov 20 went to Dr. Then we put in claim with issue “stomach”. Nov. 23 Dr tells us our dog has renal failure. Lots of money spent. We found out that we did not meet deductible because the stomach issue is a different issue than the renal failure. So I called to explain that the test results showed it wasn’t stomach but was renal. Trupanion was going to do an internal investigation to see if we could avoid an APPEALS process!!! They never called me back and almost a year goes by. We keep doing what our dr told us to treat our dog on Nov 23. New RX food, special phosphate binder, special pills... Values come back good every CBC every 2-4 months So no problems... But stress on dog gets worse and we are back to DR for a UTI issue where the results show not just renal failure but it turned into pancreatitis. All related. All kidneys.... They start looking into the declined claims and tell us they will try and resolve internally again. No calls back again after 41 days. Called today. They will send me an appeals form to have vet fill out. Man, I pay over $100 per month for insurance For 2 dogs and the resources and time this company is using to deny giving me back $207 is unbelievable. I’ve spent about $10,000 in 12 years on our 1 dog’s insurance and I received back $400 and change and spent my $1000 deductible, and considerably more they are trying to deny. The time And energy I’ve wasted is priceless.
