Quick and efficient

I just wanted to express my complete amazement at how quickly and easily the process has been to file a claim and receive my money for reimbursement. Every month that I paid the premiums, I asked myself if it was worth it to have insurance on my dogs. Well I received the answer when my Greyhound Irene had a horrible fracture of her little toe. The claims where submitted to Pets Best, and within 10 days they were processed and I had a check in my hand. No problems at all where encountered. It was a burden off of my shoulders to know that I could make the best decision on treatment for her based on what was best and not how much it was.

Horrible- Change Terms Without Notice

We purchased a plan with PetsHealth (Hartville group) in 2005. Not very many companies offering pet insurance at the time. We found out that after the first year of coverage, our dog started loosing benefits because the clause in the contract stipulated a waiting period of 180 days from inception. They changed this to 180 days between cycles (annual). Which means any chronic condition will not be covered after 1 year. Our pure breed was diagnosed with a skin disorder and found out that since we treated him in November with an OTC for itching he bacame ineligible for coverage to see a dermatologist and all subsequent treatments because 180 days had not passed. We were also threatened if we cancelled our policy early we would encure penalty fees. We requested a high review of the claims and had to constantly call them for a status update. Once we got ahold of someone willing to tell us what happened they were rude and condascending. Now that we cancelled our policy all of our dogs issues will be considered pre-existing and not covered through another vendor.

Worst Pet Insurance out there

I obtained the Petcare Pet insurance for my yorkie puppy when I first got her in August due to all the horror stories I had heard regarding vet bills. I brought Abbey to the vet when I first got her and retuned with a clean bill of health. In October after purchasing the petcare insurance I brought abbey to the vet for a minor skin issue. And after countless phone call, wasted money and 3 months of annoyance and having one of the supposedly educated Petcare insurance agents scream at me and keep me on hold for well over 20 minutes I have finally cancelled the insurance. This insurance is horrible, the pet care reps reiterate the same useless information they gather from their records (which are not up to date) and worst of all they waste your time. I encourage nobody to buy this insurance it is horrible and this company is beyond unprofessional.

Embrace delivers excellent pet health coverage

After the loss of our 19 yr old and later our 14 yr old cats we thought about buying pet insurance on our newly adopted 1 yr old cat. We compared the common pet insurance carriers, their policies and payout for illness/accident coverage and came across Embrace Pet Insurance. They have a plan the pet owner customizes to match their own budget from basic to full coverage. A policy based on customer's choice, not by a "limited" fee schedules as other pet insurance carriers offer. We selected a $200 deductible, 10% co-Pay, coverage $10,000 for $21/mo per cat, a 1 and 2 yr old in San Mateo County, CA. Rates are based on zip code (which is good as vet expense in our area are very high), we get a 15% discount for microchip, 2nd pet, and paying annually. The website is user friendly at: www.embracepetinsurance.com About a month after obtaining coverage, our cat almost died from a serious Sepsis infection. Hospitalized at 2 facilities, Embrace totally delivered covering 90% of expenses after deductible. Our cat Termyte had 3 other visits that year, which were also covered, Embrace paid promptly (before the VISA bill arrived). Our vet bills totaled around $3,000 that first year. Now a customer for 2-1/2 yrs we are still impressed and added our 2nd kitty to the plan. The best pet insurance out there by far. Underwritten by Lloyd's of London is impressive. The "Embracer's" as they are called are knowledgeable, caring and compassionate. We knew this company was something special!

Pets Best Insurance is a SCAM

We signed up with this company in July of 2008. We opted for accident insurance for all 4 of our dogs for about $80/month. The sales rep was real smooth, very pushy and guaranteed that ALL accidents would be covered. In December of 2008, one of my dogs blew out it's knee (cruciate tear) on one of his hind legs. We called Pets Best to discuss prior to surgery and they guaranteed coverage for all $2500 as long as it wasn't pre-existing or an arthritic condition. The surgeon said it was neither and we proceeded with the surgery. After submitting the claim, Pets Best REJECTED it because of some very vague small print on page 5 of the policy that says the policy doesn't cover these types of accidents until AFTER a 12 MONTH TIME FRAME!!!!! When we challenged the claim refusal, the manager had the nerve to ask if we specifically inquired about cruciate tears PRIOR to signing up for the policy!!! MY GOD...WHAT A JOKE!!! How were we supposed to know what kind of accident would occur.

Best investment made as a pet owner!

I adopted two Bichon Frise pups in March 2006. While in the vet's office one day, I picked up an ASPCA brochure on pet health insurance. It sounded like a good idea, but I was skeptical that it would be worth the cost. In October 2010 the male Bichon snapped the ACL in his left hind leg and had to have immediate surgery - estimated cost $1100. I saved the itemized bills from the surgery and the follow-up care, went online and printed a claim form, and mailed the package to the insurance company. Within four weeks of mailing the package, I received a check for $654 of the approximate $1100 bill. I suddenly realized that purchasing pet health insurance was the best investment I had made since becoming a pet owner. Not only did it provide peace of mind for me, but it made it financially possible for my pet to receive the best quality of care needed as a result of the accident. I am proud to be an ASPCA customer and to recommend ASPCA Pet Health Insurance to every pet owner who values the health and well being of their pets.

we cancelled

We discussed covered details on the phone with a rep in detail before we purchased; the info proved not to be true. When we made a claim they kept finding reasons not to cover....after we addressed the first one they then came up with another that we not ever mentioned. We thought it was a scam not to pay a claim.

Beware of low per incident limits

I found out the hard way that PetFirst's per incident limits were a joke. When my 5 yr old Golden Retriever was diagnosed with Lymphoma I was devastated. The last thing on my mine was the cost of treatment since I had pet insurance. Well, PetFirst has a per incident limit on their plans. This means they limit the reimbursement for each condition. I had their middle Preferred Plan. It has a limit of only $2500 on each diagnosis. This only paid for the initial testing and 2 rounds of chemo. I ended up paying over $3000 out of pocket to treat my dog. If I had to do it all over again, I would have chosen a company that has no per incident or diagnosis limit. This insurance is ok, but only if nothing serious happens.

Fast fair claim payouts and open to appeals

I recommend Embrace. I have had a comprehensive policy on my 9 year old cat for about a year. I have filed 4 claims in that time: a wellness claim for an annual exam, a dental cleaning with some minor issues, a senior exam (like an annual but this is an extra exam every year), and a skin/allergy exam and test. The wellness claim was paid (about $200), as it's a part of my policy. The dental claim was initially rejected based on a pre-existing condition. My vet wrote a letter to Embrace explaining that current research shows that the evidence they used to consider this a pre-existing condition is no longer thought to be very valid. Embrace took a few weeks to research this and then responded that the doctor made a good case and that not only would they pay the claim (about $200 after my deductible), but they would also add this new information to their claims review process for other clients. The third claim I filed was for the senior exam, and it was denied based on the fact that my wellness benefit was used up for the year (not a surprise), and the fourth claim, for skin/allergies, was paid. Embrace has been fantastic to work with. The monthly premium for my policy feels like a lot of money ($52 for accident/illness and $15 for wellness, yearly physical and shots), but they do seem to be completely reasonable and they communicate very well, and I have a senior pet, which means higher premiums anyway. Their policies and the explanations of benefit that ac
