Amazing and helpful anytime I call.

Amazing and helpful anytime I call. Claims are paid even before the meds are ready at my vet. I just wish you could get dental coverage.

Because any treatment even slightly or remotely related to Missy's "cough" isn't covered. I got insurance to prevent me from paying out so much money to a vet and so far $2000 later I'm still paying YOU and the vet.

Pleased we chose Pets Best.

We have been very pleased with Pets Best insurance. Prices on packages for insurance are very reasonable. The app also makes it very easy to submit claims and they take care of them quickly usually between 7-10 days and the direct deposit into your bank account on reimbursements is Awesome. Love that they also have a vet online call 24/7 and customer service where you can actually talk to someone. Very happy that we chose Pets Best over the other insurance companies out there.

Look Elsewhere for Pet Insurance

I recently paid $2000 for a surgery that Trupanion had previously pre-approved. What they neglected to include in their pre-approval was that they only cover anesthetic (the largest item on any surgical invoice) at 50% and covered none of the pre-anesthetic work-up. That 90% they boast about covering? They didn't cover even 50% of my bill. My clinic attempted to obtain information on my behalf on what was not covered and the reasoning behind it, the clinic's office manager was told TWICE that Trupanion would reach out to me directly. I never received a call at all. When I called Trupanion, the promise of them calling me was noted (yet not completed) and the agent on the line was able to only speak in generalities (not nearly useful enough to file an appeal) and when I expressed my frustration at the whole situation, she had the gall to tell me how I should have handled my pet's surgery differently as I wouldn't be in the predicament I am currently in. Nice. I did appeal Trupanion's decision a week ago and to date, have not heard whether they have even received the information my vet clinic had sent by email. Who knows how long it will take before this company reviews my appeal?? Seriously, a total lack of communication here! Today I cancelled my policies (after leaving 3 messages requesting callback to take care of this), figured I should get out while I still have a few dollars left in my pocket. The confirmation email I received was a laugh and, dare I say it - full of false claims: "If you ever need medical insurance for your pets again in the future, we hope you’ll think of us. We’ll always be here when you need help, day or night, with the same great benefits you have now: 1. Total peace of mind. Your Trupanion coverage can help you budget for unexpected veterinary care—without maxing out a credit card or digging into your savings. You should never have to make a tough choice between finances and the care your pet needs. (I had ZERO peace of mind during my pet's illness and the stress Trupanion has put me through by not living up to their commitments has not helped my mental health at all. I also absolutely DID need to “dig into my savings” to pay the bill that Trupanion refused to.) 2. No out-of-pocket expense for covered costs. Trupanion members don’t have to wait for reimbursement, because we can pay veterinarians directly, within seconds, for all covered costs—and we can do it while you’re checking out. (This is true that they do pay veterinarians directly {note: unless they screw things up and “assume” I need to pay my deductible a second time, as they did with the same pet on a completely different issue earlier in the year - which once again took multiple calls and resubmitting invoices before they would admit their error}; however when they don't stand behind their coverage, members absolutely DO pay out-of-pocket {until they admit they screwed things up the first time}.) 3. The most comprehensive coverage. Your Trupanion coverage includes things that a lot of other policies don’t, including dental coverage, food and supplement coverage, and no payout caps or limits. See how we stack up against the competition." (This bullet is a blatant lie - my cat was diagnosed not long ago with struvites and immediately put on a urinary prescription diet. Trupanion does not pay for this required diet. Dental coverage is also not included, and apparently neither is half of other anesthetic). TLDR: In short - if you value your pets and your pocketbook, look elsewhere for pet insurance, because you won’t get what you are promised from Trupanion.

Angry and disappointed

I've been a customer of Healthy Paws since 2011. I was REALLY happy with them until the last couple years. The premium for my small mixed breed dog started at about $20/month, and increased by a few dollars each year. Ok, no problem. However, the year he turned 12, the premium nearly tripled, then doubled the year after that. For our pure-bred large breed, the policy was always on the expensive side, but we again saw it double the year she turned 8. The premium for both dogs is now nearly $600/month. I am 100% committed to the idea of pet insurance, but I can't help but feel like Healthy Paws is trying to off-load us as customers now that my dogs are older. I am so disappointed and angry. Now that my dogs have a bunch of pre-existing conditions, our only options are to drop coverage or pay premiums that are on track to double each year. This is completely unacceptable for a company that claims to want to support your family for the life of your pet. They don't mean it.

PetsBest is no longer the best or even close. Beware.

I feel like PetsBest has changed radically since the pandemic. Claims are taking FOREVER to get reimbursed, or denied. My dogs juvenile cataracts were completely denied, with the explanation being that there weren’t enough records of her eye health? Who takes a 2 year old dog to an ophthalmologist just for the heck of it? There’s never a health issue until there is, and that’s when you take them to the vet, as I did. It’s a disingenuous way to avoid paying a valid claim and the surgery they probably feared was coming. For me it meant thousands out of pocket when I was already paying $200/month for 2 dogs (wellness included). Furthermore, the last rate increase was horrendous-a near 50% increase for same coverage. Up to $276/month. That’s absurd if they’re just going to deny claims anyway. The last one to be denied was an ordinary bill for vaccines from a vaccine clinic. PB didn’t like the format of the invoice apparently. I mean COME ON. Lastly, when I called about the rate increase the customer service was flat-out rude. Check recent BBB activity on this company. NOT what it used to be. They’ll pay for random illnesses, accidents etc., but beware if your pet has anything that might become chronic or expensive. They’ll deny the condition up front to get out of paying for it long-term. You know-the stuff people buy insurance for. Been paying them thousands each year for years and years without any significant claims? THEY DO NOT CARE. And once you’re signed up, you’re stuck. I’m now paying $90/month for a 6 year old mixed breed who’s never had anything wrong but one tooth problem. But any other pet insurance company will now categorize any dental as preexisting, so I’m loathe to switch. I’ve come to feel PB adjustors and leadership are crooks, liars and thieves. If you have a young pet, start them elsewhere. PB is riding on its old reputation while adopting shady insurance biz practices and jacking rates to unmanageable levels each year. For what they charge I can get the same coverage plus alternative therapies at two other companies who’s staff aren’t rude.
