Honest Company - No hidden tricks
After incurring thousands upon thousands of vet costs caring for our beloved dog who has since crossed rainbow bridge we decided not to risk an other financial setback. When we recovered from the grief and decided to adopt a dog we also got pet insurance. Knowing we could handle the expected routine well dog costs at the vet but cringed at the thought of unexpected expenses for an accident, serious or chronic illness and opted to get a policy from Trupanion. We thought as life goes we would pay monthly and never have reason to use the insurance as the last time around we really needed the protection and didn't have the insurance. Well we were right for a while and then the dog gets sick. Again the experience of our dog developing medical conditions that would require ongoing treatment and medication. Thank heavens we had the pet insurance this time. We have an excellent but expensive vet. Trupanion has been a financial lifesaver for us. Paid claims as promised. No hidden exclusions or excuses. The insurance comes with a "find my owner tag" and this service has been invaluable to us. It saved us from heart ache when the landscaping crew unexpectedly showed up and didn't secure the gate back properly. Before we knew it the dog got out. Panic was about to set in but there was Trupanion calling asking for permission to give our phone number to neighbors down the block who didn't know us but found our dog. Trupanion Gives Excellent Coverage
After our 11 year old GSD mix dog Lyla broke her leg in 2010 and spending over $6000 I finally got wise and bought pet insurance for all my animals!I used this site among others to research the best company. Well I can say I definitely made the right choice with Trupanion!!
Earlier this year my girl had a tooth extracted and had a reimbursement of about $700.
But the really big one was a diagnosis of osteosarcoma (ugh!) last month. Another $6000 but this time Trupanion was there to help with almost $5000 in reimbursement ($500 deductible plus a number of specialist visits not covered)
She will have ongoing treatment for this and so having the support for the vet bills is incredible.
We also got reimbursed within a week! No payout limit for either each incident or for lifetime. Pays 90% of actual expenses not their own table of fees. Friendly people too :) Highly recommend Trupanion!

Trupanion has been a lifesaver!
I have had Trupanion pet insurance for both my dog and cat since March and I love it! Their customer service is excellent and (outside of the very first claim which takes a bit longer to process) the turnaround on receiving reimbursement checks is excellent. They let you choose your deductible (I chose none) and they pay 90% of everything beyond the office visit cost. (Which I found was financially actually a better deal than competitors.) I am very satisfied with their service. They even think of the little details like a collar tag and insurance cards.

Everyone's health insurance should be so good
I adopted a kitten, Mo, last November. My vet suggested I get pet insurance from Trupanion. I remember my dad telling me when I first bought my own health insurance-- never skimp on insurance. Well I am so happy I bought Trupanion. This month (June), my cute kitten decided to eat a shoelace. It took several visits to the PetER over the course of 2 days to diagnose why he was vomitting and lethargic. X-rays, blood tests, ultrasound and then surgery. The shoelace was stuck in his intestines and stomach. I remember when the surgeon told me how much the surgery could be, I responded, "I have a credit card and pet insurance, so do whatever you have to do". He told me some people have to put their pet down if they can't afford surgery. I cried.
Trupanion did as advertised. I got a response to my claims in record time. They kept me informed of the status of the claims. And, when I brought a possible error or oversight to their attention, it was quickly rectify, with an apology.
Trupanion pays 90% after deductible and exam fees, but given the cost of all the tests and surgery, my Dad and the vet were right. Buy insurance. I was out of pocket only about $600 when the bills were about $3600
I am extremely pleased with Trupanion. Mo has fully recovered and hopefully has learned not to eat shoelaces.

Payout Limits
Unlimited lifetime payouts on eligible conditions with no payout limits-ever.
Deductible
You can choose your deductible from $0 – $1000, in $5 increments, to fit your budget.
Trupanion offers a lifetime, per condition deductible meaning that once the deductible is met for an eligible condition, you never have to meet it again. That condition is covered for life. This is great for chronic conditions that can span the entirety of a pet’s life such as allergies or cancer.
Age Limits
All pets under 14 years old can enroll.
Once enrolled, pets stay insured regardless of age.
Waiting Period
Accidents: 5 days
Illnesses: 30 days
Other providers may have additional waiting periods for congenital conditions like hip dysplasia, Trupanion does not.
Exclusions
Trupanion was developed to protect you and your pet from unexpected illnesses and injuries. That means we don’t cover “predictable” care costs that you can plan ahead for, like:
Examination fees
Wellness and preventive care
Elective, or cosmetic procedures
Sales tax, where applicable
