Depending on the plan Trupanion covers up to 90% of eligible expenses, has unlimited payouts-always, and can pay your vet bill, within seconds, at time of checkout, so all you pay is your portion (anything not covered by Trupanion). Best Pet insurance around
I have experience with Trupanion both as a policyholder and as a Veterinary Technician. In my experience, Trupanion is by far the best insurance company out there. I have recently had to use my insurance when my dog required emergency surgery while I was traveling on a road trip with her. Between the surgery bill and her having to be re hospitalized for post operative complications it cost close to $7000, and she still requires expensive medication and recheck bloodwork over the next month. Thanks to Trupanion I was able to ensure my best friend received excellent care and I had peace of mind in regards to the financial aspect of this emergency situation.
As a veterinary professional I have experience with many different insurance companies and I can honestly say that Trupanion is the best!

Thankful!
Trupanion has been a life saver with fast, friendly service. The financial burden of major surgery for our 11 month old Golden Retriever, Kipper, has been taken off our plate and allowed us to make the best choices possible for our fur family member. Trupanion has been prompt with pre approval and direct claims, processing, and mailing out reimbursement for smaller related claims. We are so thankful!

Teeth removal
Our 6 month old shih tzu, Sassy, was in for spaying and umbelical hernia repair. Our vet found she also had decidious teeth that was not loose and interfering with the formation and placement of permanent teeth. With our permission, she pulled these teeth while having her under anesthetic for the other things. While Trupanion does not cover spaying or the umbilical hernia (pre-existing), they promptly paid for the teeth removal and part of the anesthetic. The claim was handled promptly and completely to my satisfaction. Best decision I made was to get Trupanion. I have peace of mind.
Monthly Cost
Monthly cost varies due to multiple factors including: species, breed, age at enrollment, gender, and postal code.
Coverage
One simple plan covers new injuries and illnesses, hereditary, congenital, and chronic conditions—once the deductible is met, Trupanion pays 90% of the remaining invoice.

Payout Limits
Unlimited lifetime payouts on eligible conditions with no payout limits-ever.
Deductible
You can choose your deductible from $0 – $1000, in $5 increments, to fit your budget.
Trupanion offers a lifetime, per condition deductible meaning that once the deductible is met for an eligible condition, you never have to meet it again. That condition is covered for life. This is great for chronic conditions that can span the entirety of a pet’s life such as allergies or cancer.
Age Limits
All pets under 14 years old can enroll.
Once enrolled, pets stay insured regardless of age.
Waiting Period
Accidents: 5 days
Illnesses: 30 days
Other providers may have additional waiting periods for congenital conditions like hip dysplasia, Trupanion does not.
Exclusions
Trupanion was developed to protect you and your pet from unexpected illnesses and injuries. That means we don’t cover “predictable” care costs that you can plan ahead for, like:
Examination fees
Wellness and preventive care
Elective, or cosmetic procedures
Sales tax, where applicable
