Trupanion pets lead longer happier lives.1 Pets insured with Trupanion lived longer than pets without Trupanion because pet parents didn’t have to worry about the cost of the care their pet needed. Depending on the plan Trupanion covers up to 90% of eligible expenses, has unlimited payouts-always, and can pay your vet bill, within seconds, at time of checkout, so all you pay is your portion (anything not covered by Trupanion). They have transformed the way pet insurance handles claims by eliminating the reimbursement process. Trupanion was founded in Canada and provides bets-in-class coverage and is dedicated to helping pets we love get the care they need. They’ve been around for more than 20 years, making them experts and setting standards for the industry. One perk of this, and what they pride themselves on, is the amount they pay out to pet owners for each claim. Paying out more on the dollar than any other pet insurance provider. To date they have paid out $2 Billion in claims and have insured nearly 1 million pets. To put it simply, there is a reason why 98.7% of Trupanion members stay enrolled every month. 1Based on a December, 2020 Trupanion study analyzing third party hospital claims data comparing pets insured with a Trupanion policy to pets without a Trupanion policy. *Terms and conditions apply. Because of Trupanion, My Dog Didn't Die of Cancer

In 2014 my Black Lab mix was diagnosed with bladder cancer and liver cancer. She had no symptoms; the tumors were found by accident through an annual exam. Kelly was born on my laundry room floor along with 7 other litter mates after I had rescued her fearful mother, Maggie, just 4 days earlier. The litter had to be bottle fed every 2 hours and Kelly was the runt - this would become the toughest rescue I would ever encounter. But my rewards would last for 13 years and 42 days. Two important factors guided my decision to pursue chemotherapy treatment for Kelly: she had excellent health insurance with Trupanion and despite her actual age, she had the energy of a 7 year old. So she first had surgery to remove the tumors in her bladder and on her liver, & then after she healed we started chemo with an Oncologist in Indianapolis. After 3 months of chemo, I needed to go back east to Baltimore so Kelly continued her chemo out east with a different Oncologist. Trupanion had no problem with the fact that we were switching back and forth between vets in different states. Reimbursements were even quicker when a Trupanion employee to me about direct deposit into my checking account. They make it so easy - no more delays and taking a check to the bank. There was a 3 month period of time that Kelly was in remission in early 2015, but then the bladder cancer slowly came back. So we started up a different course of chemo just to slow the bladder cancer down. Around this point, Kelly's medical bills were around $15,000.00. For both Maggie & Kelly I had $0 deduction with 90% reimbursement with Trupanion, so although their premiums were the highest on the scale it turned out to be the best choice overall. During the summer of 2015 Kelly's Indianapolis Oncologist moved out of state, so our next best choice was the Oncology department at Purdue University Veterinary School of Medicine 1.5 hrs away. Kelly was still holding her own, eating well, & I was looking forward to working the Vet who was the leading authority on canine bladder cancer in the country. Three days before Kelly was to start chemo at Purdue she passed away - not of cancer, but of a bleeding stomach ulcer caused by one of the cancer pills she was prescribed. A part of my heart left with her. In total, Kelly's cancer bills totaled $25,800.00. Without Trupanion, I would never have that last year with Kelly. Trupanion was great. I have 5 rescued dogs right now, and you never know their me

Totally stunned at the quality of service

For the first time I purchased a health policy for a dog. With vet prices rising I just thought it may be a good idea. My dog developed allergies and so I put in a claim expecting an argument. Nope, I got fast, efficient service and a helpful and cheerful customer service person who was amazing. Great job! So glad I chose Trupanion!

Continuous rate increase now 400% of original rate

The pros:* never denied a valid claim * pay very quickly The Cons: * rates are not stable as advertised. There have been multiple threads on line regarding their consistent rate increases based on statements without proof. i.e. animals are living longer and therefore it costs them more to maintain. Our first increase was from $50 to $125- we had never made a claim and were on automatic payment from our CC so never late with a monthly payment. We have received annual increases at exactly 20%- their published maximum. Unfortunately once a claim is made your ability to change carriers is very difficult. Any insurance company you got to will call every previous vet visit a pre-existinting condition and either deny coverage, impose sharp limits on their coverage or charge an even higher rate. For example your pet throws up- vet determines they have a gastric infection- now that could mean limits or no coverage on anything to do with the illness/infection from the mouth to the bum. My only complaint regarding Trupanion is that their advertisement of your rates will never change are very misleading. They cover what they say they will and they reimburse you very quickly just make sure you are able to budget for 20% increases every year for the life of your pet- that means your rates will double in 4 years, triple in 6, and by age ten you could be paying 619% more. My rates will be over $400/mo (just about $5000/yr) in the next 4 years- that is a long way from $50 a month!

Exactly the support I would have hoped for...

Our Wheaton Terrier is undergoing a series of kidney procedures due to high kidney values so I opened a claim with Trupanion. The response received was timely and accurate and provided a solid basis for future claims, as required. Thank you!

I trust Trupanion

Trupanion it the ONLY health insurance company I've ever come across, that truly seems to have the interest of it's customers (and their wonderful pets) as their first priority. I was skeptical about the value of pet insurance for years. This is the first online review I've ever written...That says something! P.H. Garrison New York
