Lucky We Went With Pets Plus Us!

We purchased pet insurance for Milo in March of 2015 – when he was 4 months old. For the minimal premium of $22 a month, we knew that if anything arose, we were covered. A little over a year later in April of 2016 Milo broke his right hip, a funny jump and a scream later we were on our way to the animal hospital with our little 1 year old kitten. He had to be sedated immediately for the pain (a no brainer right?) when it comes to Pets Plus Us it was. They do not need to authorize procedures or medications prior to them being administered or performed. Something I never even thought of when we were choosing which company to go with. Some insurance companies require the vet to obtain authorization prior. He spent the night comfortably medicated and had the surgery the next day. In the interim I called Pets Plus Us to see what the procedure was to submit a claim and if they needed to be versed on what was going to happen prior. They were extremely sorry to hear of the situation, and walked me through where I could find the claims form on their website, and how to submit it. That is all they required. Our doctor was informed that we had pet insurance and to go ahead with whatever needed to be done to keep Milo happy (without having to authorize additional fees with us or the pet insurance company). The recovery was hard on everyone as its 6 weeks inside a big dog crate because you cant reason or explain to a cat that they have to sit still until they are fully healed. I submitted the form they required, along with a history from the vet of what had happened. In 6 weeks I received a cheque couriered to my office. Not once did they ask for additional information. They sent me a note saying they have received the claims form and if anything was missing they would be in contact. I thought for sure they were going to try and find a loophole somewhere to get out of reimbursement. They didn’t. They called to see how he was doing mid way through the recovery process at which time I asked if there was any issue with my claim and they responded no, its just being processed. They then called again after the full recovery time (6 weeks) to see how he was doing, and if the recovery went well. Skip ahead 7 months to November where he broke his other hip. This claim was a bit different (in a good way) in that he was limping funny which we attributed to the pins that were placed in his hip were bothering him.

Would never own a pet with out insurance

I have had Louise since she was just hours old. She was an orphaned kitten that I hand raised and bottle fed. When she was just over a year old my husband and I went away on vacation, after a few days the house sitter let us know that Louise had been vomiting after eating. When we got home, I could tell right away Louise was not well. She was swallowing over and over, crying in pain, and drooling. I brought her to the veterinary clinic, where with x-rays it was determined she had something lodged in her esophagus. Off to the specialty hospital we went for an endoscopy, they had to put a camera down her throat and into her stomach to see why she couldn't swallow. It turned out to be pieces of her food that were stuck. They also determined that her esophagus had very little almost no motility. The muscles didn't move and contract the way they should to make her swallow. They were also able to diagnose her with low/non functioning lower esophageal sphincter. So the bottom of her esophagus did not close all the way as it is supposed to. This was causing stomach acid to splash up into her throat, irritating her esophagus, and likely cause the low motility. We decided to treat her with a strong antacid, as well as a medication that would hopefully increase the muscle contraction and therefore motility of her esophagus. This helped, but Louise continued to vomit and regurgitate regularly, and have episodes of food getting stuck, she would become painful, dehydrated and required hospitalization multiple times, over the next 2 years. She had multiple ultrasounds, multiple endoscopy procedures, and lots of trial and error with medications and types of food that would agree with her. It was difficult watch her choke and struggle so often. The most recent episode of choking, she was hospitalized for almost a week, because we couldn't get the pain under control. The radiologist at the hospital recommended we try doing a fluoroscopy swallowing study, to figure out exactly where and why food always gets stuck. At last Louise was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia. The hole in her diaphragm for her esophagus was much too large, and part of her stomach was up in her chest. This is a rare condition in dogs, but extremely rare almost unheard of in cats. It was decided that Louise would go to surgery. During surgery, Louise had a stomach tube placed into the side of her abdomen, to facilitate feedings while she was recovering.

Wonderful company!

We have a Chesapeake Bay Retriever who just turned 2 years old. At 6 months, he was diagnosed with entropion and has required 3 corrective eye surgeries and numerous other vet appointments. PetsPlusUs has given us the peace of mind knowing we could proceed with all of his surgeries. He's 100% now and we are so happy. Every time I call or email PetsPlusUs their first question is always to ask how Walter(our pup) is. They never make us feel bad or guilty for using the insurance. Without hesitation I would insure any other pets through PetsPlusUs. Truly a wonderful company that made our tough situation so much easier!

I'm so glad I have Pets Plus Us insurance.

I picked up two kittens (Flip and Flop)from a rescue shelter and luckily they came with a free trail of pet insurance. One of the kittens(Flop)is that kitten that will be my forever problem cat. Within a day of being home his eye started to puss and swell and need attention. After 6 weeks of Vet visits and two surgeries on his one eye, he can partially see out of it and he is doing well. It cost over $2500 ans Pets Plus US covered the 80% no hassles. The Vet sent all the paperwork in and within 10 days the payment was in my bank account. Move forward one year same kitten (FLOP)has somehow broken both his back legs. (indoor cat and a growth plate problem?? Who knew) He needed multiple x-rays Vet visit and Pain meds. It took over 3 weeks to see the Specialist who completed a bilateral hip joint removal. He is almost back to himself minus the hair not fully regrown.(he looks like he's not wearing any pants ... really funny) Pets Plus Us fully covered %80 of all the expenses no question no hassles, the vet sent all the bills in a I had full payment within 10 days the cost was up over $3000 this time. It was wonderful how fast and easy it was to claim. I think this is the best insurance I have. To top it off they have called to see how the FLOP is doing!!
