Will never ever recommend NATIONWIDE PET INSURANCE

So my dog she is 12 years old now. It was originally VPI "veterinarians pet insurance" when we rescued her at 2 months old. They were great for the very small claims anything under two $300 they will cover me before 40% of it. However 2 years ago she had major surgery which cost $8,700 to remove bladder stones at the animal hospital so it was an emergency. Submit all the claims and all Nationwide covered was $895. Of course I called them several times after that and submitted the paperwork several times however nothing else was done so I bit the bullet cuz I love my dog very much and I paid out of my pocket $7700. Okay so 2 years now she needs her gallbladder removed. And of course the surgery is $7,600 at the animal hospital and again contact Nationwide and $895 again. So even though I have the middle tier I asked them what if I had the best insurance through them which is the higher tier how much would you have covered? $1,900 was the response. I said to them what surgery do you see that cost $1,900. Listen I'll expect them to cover everything of course but even if they were covered half of this I would have found that acceptable. Now at this point I cannot afford this so eventually she is going to die. Of course getting her gallbladder removed we can of course hopefully pray that we get several more years out of her. Even the surgeon and everyone else says they should be covering at least 80%, however so this is why I want to write this review please stay away from Nationwide regardless of what it is pet insurance home insurance car insurance anything from them they are definitely not on your side. You have no idea how upset I am cuz now we're talking about a life over money. I'll leave it at that.

I was offered Pet insurance through my…

I was offered Pet insurance through my company. well, don't waste your time. I have 2 dogs and 1 cat I insured them all. I made a claim on our 2 year old Giant schnauzer and it was denied, He had one testicle that did not descend and our local veterinary clinic stated he needed surgery to remove the testicle and Nationwide would not cover it. They stated Neutering was not covered. Well we had no intention on neutering him . well we never got reimbursed for that. then in November he got a stick stuck in his mouth he needed to be rushed to an emergency clinic and the clinic needed to but him to sleep to remove the stick , Nationwide also refused to pay for that stating, the clinic did not itemize the bill. I called the clinic and asked for it to be itemized and the clinic sent me the exact same form. when I spoke to a representative from Nationwide they said they needed it itemized I asked if they could call the clinic. The representative I spoke to just did not seem like they wanted to go out of their way to do anything for a paying customer. needless to say 2 claims both rejected. I think it was time to cancel our policy. Please don't waste your money on Nationwide

Don’t get this insurance

I was happy with nationwide insurance until my dog turned 8 years old. He was promptly dropped. When I called I was told they don’t insure dogs over 8 years old for health and wellness, only accidents. Now anything he had in past is not covered under another pet insurance. This is an awful policy, I’m trying to get the word out so it doesn’t happen to other pet parents. Also if a condition runs in that breed it is not covered.

Great pricing for what they cover

Great pricing for what they cover, but because of my dogs ages, illness coverage were not offered to me. I was only able to get accident coverage.

Poor Billing Practices, Worse Customer Service

Update: Nationwide contacted me and fixed the issue. Kudos to their management team. I had pet insurance policies cancelled due to Nationwide's own poor billing practices and customer service. When I had a card number change result in a declined payment, I updated my payment information. Nationwide did not process the payment on the new card. I received a notice of cancellation; and e-mailed a request that all three pets be made current with the previously updated information. Nationwide only processed the payment for ONE cat, leaving the other two cancelled. When I called, they said there was nothing to be done and they had advised me that I needed to call for the other two when I submitted the email. No response to my e-mail to customer service was sent. It was not in my e-mail inbox OR Nationwide's own online document center. The phone representative just kept repeating that they had sent that reply. I do not like being lied to and will not do business with companies that lie.
