Horrible claim processing time

The company says they will settle your claim within 30 days. I have claims that I filed in early October that haven’t been processed yet. Every 30 days they send me a letter saying it will take another 30 days to process, but they don’t tell you why. This has continued for four months. If I would have known this I never would have signed up with them. I have 8 open claims that I am waiting to have processed. The company is slow to process your claim but quick to take your money.

Not the best return you would hope

My two cardigan corgis got poisoned and developed pancreatitis, intractable nausea, vomiting and bloody diarrhea. They wanted to put them down initially and after 24hr reevaluation. They stayed in ICU care about 6 days with multiple iv fluids, medicines and eventually they pulled through. The final bill was between 10-11 thousand dollars for both dogs. We got about 3500 dollars back. For poisoning which is the main reason for which they went, they only covered 100 dollars out of 5000. That was appalling and ridiculous. We've been with this insurance since they were born (initially VPI pet insurance and now Nationwide), paying high premium for both and we've usually just take them twice a year to the vet for check ups, vaccines and dental hygiene. We pay out of pocket for all heart meds and flea control. I don't know why they cover so little for something so frequently encountered in the pet population. I personally wouldn't recommend the insurance. if we save all the money payed to the insurance company, we would have been able to pay the whole disease process.

Since Nationwide has taken over VPI, the quality of service, what the policy overs, and turnaround on claims has gone downhill

I have noticed a marked change for the worst in policy coverage, the amount of information required, and the process for filing a claim.

Not liking that gastroenteritis is listed as a pre-existing condition due to a couple of visits related to diarrhea He's a puppy

Moose is a puppy. Just turned a year old. He has a sensitive stomach as most puppies do and most is related to eating things he shouldn't eat. Gastroenteritis is now listed as a pre-existing condition for him. This is ridiculous and we are now looking for alternative coverage
