Wondering if it’s worth it

I recently went through a months-long process of getting reimbursed for my dog’s treatment and I still don’t understand why it got so complicated. Nationwide requested the last year of medical records for my dog, and when I submitted the records as instructed they opened a new claim as if I was requesting benefits for those visits. In the end I had several claims denied due to insufficient information, meanwhile I had provided all documents available to me and Nationwide claimed they had tried to reach out to my vet for more info without success. When I asked my vet’s office they said they had not been contacted, but contacted Nationwide themselves and were able to help me get the whole thing sorted out. However, as a result I believe Nationwide added additional preexisting conditions for my dog which I believe were a mistake, and now I have to put time and effort into sorting that out. I have been very frustrated with my Nationwide pet insurance experience so far.

Prompt Payment On Claim for Urinary Tract Infection Diagnosis and Treatment

Nationwide has been quicker this year in reimbursement of claims. My one cat has had recurrent UTIs over the past couple of years. My only gripe is that the initial urinalysis done at each annual wellness visit is not covered. It is only after the result comes back positive with an infection, that follow-up urine tests are covered. My vet routinely does urinalysis as part of the annual wellness exam. Is this not considered an integral part of a pet's physical nationally?

So thankful

I got this insurance policy when my Boxer, Bruschi, was just a puppy. We had no idea he would have so many health issues. He is almost 4 years old and has had several surgeries and procedures done already. He is healthy now again though thanks to his amazing vet and Nationwide! I am so thankful that we had Nationwide Pet Insurance. We have the Whole Pet With Wellness Plan and it is so nice to know that when it came down to the cost of the procedures he needed to have done, money was not an issue. We were able to get him the best care possible and Nationwide reimbursed us 90% of the total bill within weeks of submitting the claim. A bill that would have cost us thousands ended up only costing us a few hundred. From now on, every pet I have will have a policy with Nationwide. It is such peace of mind to know that when it comes to the health of our pets, Nationwide has us covered and we don't have to worry about the cost!

So fortunate to have found nationwide pet insurance

I've never had a pet before and I had NO idea how $ it was. Nationwide is the only way I am able to keep him- I could not afford 100% of vet visits out of pocket. I am also so thankful for a SUPER easy claim process, and (so far) helpful customer service), AND that it's payroll deductible. AND helps cover WELLNESS costs!

Monthly Cost

Policies start at approximately $12 per month.

Coverage

Nationwide offers a variety of plans offering varying levels of coverage. The company’s most popular plan, Whole Pet with Wellness, offers 90% reimbursement for accident, injury, illness and wellness care, inclusive of exam fees. All Nationwide members have complimentary 24/7 access to vethelpline.

Payout Limits

Depending on the plan selected, there may be annual benefit limits or per incident benefit allowances. There is no annual limit for the company’s most popular plan, Whole Pet with Wellness.

Deductible

Annual deductibles range from $0 to $1,000. Most popular annual deductible for Whole Pet with Wellness is $250.

Age Limits

No age restriction to enroll in company’s most popular plan, Whole Pet with Wellness. Other plans may have age restrictions.

Waiting Period

14-day waiting period after application approved and payment of premium is received.

Exclusions

Pre-existing conditions are not covered on any plans (if a condition is curable, it may be eligible for review if pet remains treatment-free for at least six months). Whole Pet with Wellness covers nearly all veterinary expenses. Notable exclusions include boarding and grooming.
Since 1982, Nationwide has helped pet owners protect what matters most. Policies range from nose-to-tail coverage to routine pet care plans that offer reimbursement for wellness exams and preventive treatments.
