We have had Healthypaws since my 5 year old Doberman was a puppy

We have had Healthypaws since the beginning of our 5 your old Doberman's life. The claim process is very simple as all you do is take a photo of the invoice using their mobile app and many times it only takes 1 business day until it is processed and the funds are deposited into your bank account. Their policy details are straight forward and we have never had any issue (knock on wood) with Healthypaws. They have been a lifesaver as our Doberman has been diagnosed with a liver issue, and she also has been having issues with one of her legs. We had another popular pet insurance plan with our previous Doberman and it was very cumbersome manual process to file a claim and it took at least 3 weeks for it to be processed and a check eventually would come in the mail. I highly recommend this pet insurance company!

Great Reimbursement Process and Speed, a couple pain points...

Soon after I got my dog 5 years ago, I decided to go looking for a health insurance company for her. Not wanting to get hit with big vet bills if something happens was an important thought for me. Back then there were less reviews, but based on what I found, I decided to go with Healthy Paws for the following reasons: - My dog was young and the wait period was only 7 days after initial vet exam - No pre-existing conditions that I would have needed to get covered (as far as I know they are hard if not impossible to get covered) - Comparing prices they were cheaper than others - I didn't need routine vet care coverage Over the last nearly 6 years my dog, unfortunately, needed medication and vet attention on numerous occasions and had multiple surgeries, not even talking about a full check up from an animal oncologist. The most recent surgery being a CBLO repair for her cruciate ligament in her back leg. After the initial claim, reimbursement claims are usually approved within 24 hours! I never had an issue with getting anything not covered that I expected to be covered. I get follow up emails from Healthy Paws as well asking how my dog is doing and if she is recovering well. This happened not only once but with every bigger claim I have filed. Now, why only 4 stars? Things to keep in mind: - The exam fees are not covered, only medication, treatments/surgeries, rehabilitation. If you have ever taken your dog to a specialty vet, the exam fee doubles or triples to what a regular vet charges. It would be great if specialty exams would be covered, at least for the amount above the regular vet exam fee. - Premiums are getting higher and higher. This is also not a surprise, but unfortunately, because of the above mentioned 'no coverage of pre-existing' for most all pet insurances, just switching to a cheaper provider after price comparison is not really an option. So what we would do with car or home insurance, we can't do with pet insurance. The selection of a pet health insurance seems to be for the life time of the pet because of this. In more than 50% of cases, when one knee needed a surgery because of the cruciate ligament, the other knee will give out too because of over use. Cancelling or switching insurance would mean that that injury would not be covered at all. Again even with rising premiums they keep them just low enough so it makes sense to keep the peace of mind. - Premiums are depending on your location! Now, I get if you move out of state or from rural to metro, but I moved a town over and my premium per month was $10 higher. Moved 5 mils east (and actually closer to a more metro area, but same population density as before) and my premium went down $15 a month again. I get this for a car insurance, but for a pet health insurance? Seems weird to me. Again, even though there are some pain points, I would chose Healthy Paws again as my dog's healthcare insurance for my next dog. The promptness in payment, in answering any and all questions and care of the employees are the factors that count for me.
