A Pet Insurer Who Lives Up To Their Name (And Their Claims)
My wife laughed at me when I said I was taking out pet insurance for our dog George. Why would we need that, she asked. Well, a couple of years later we found out... then found out again.
One day, we returned home to George's rear legs being paralyzed, and it was clear something was seriously wrong. A visit to our local veterinary hospital led to an urgent referral to a specialist, to an MRI, and ultimately to back surgery. The overall cost was somewhere in the $7,000 range. Although the claim did take a little while to process, it was paid in full (at our 90% chosen coverage level, minus the deductible). Great, we got our money's worth.
Well, two years later... the same thing happens, this time a spinal issue further up his back. Same drill: local vet, immediate referral to specialist neurology department. MRI. Surgery. Cost: over $10k (first instance was in Michigan, second in Southern California). This time the claim was submitted and paid *the next day*. I couldn't believe the quick turnaround.
No quibbling, or trying to get out of paying. Knowing you can trust your pet insurer to pay up when you need it can be the difference between being able to say yes to a necessary procedure, or saying no.
HealthyPaws had been a chance word of mouth recommendation to us from a casual acquaintance who had had a similarly positive experience, and we count ourselves very lucky we got it!

HealthyPaws had been a chance word of mouth recommendation to us from a casual acquaintance who had had a similarly positive experience, and we count ourselves very lucky we got it!
Healthy Paws helped us so much when we needed to take our dog to the ER vet for stomach issues. It made our decision so much easier to get our dog the care she needed, even though we were quoted a couple thousand dollars. We use to have another pet insurance that had caps, so we switched to Healthy Paws for the piece of mind. The claim submitting process is super easy and they processed our claim within 2 days. I would highly recommend Healthy Paws for any pet owner!
We have had Healthypaws pet insurance for 5 years with never a complaint. Recently our beautiful Eva (GSD) spent 4 days and 3 nights in the critical care unit at a Veterinarian Specialty Hospital. We submitted a claim for $3611.00. Healthypaws denied every fee listed as Case Management stating the reason as, it was considered a new consult fee. When your pet is at a 24/7 facility doctors change shifts and your pet moves from emergency care to ICU to internal medicine care. Case management is not a separate consult. We submitted another final claim after her release with the same case management fees included and Healthypaws paid them all.? Unfortunately our sweet girl crossed the rainbow bridge. What a stressful, horrible time to have to fight with an insurance company. We cancelled our policy for our other (GSD) and went to a great pet insurance company that covers all exam and consult fees. There will never be a gray area excuse to not pay any fees. Too bad for Healthypaws as friends and family members that have Healthypaws will choose to follow us in canceling their policies as well. We are sad and disappointed in Healthypaws pet insurance.
I bought insurance for my pup not long after I adopted him. I never expected to have to use it, but because it was affordable I figured it was worth having to have a bit more peace of mind. Little did I know how wonderful it would be until after a year of having it and never using it.
Healthy Paws has been absolutely incredible and I would highly recommend them. A neighbor dog kept jumping on my dog which lead to us going to multiple vets and him having multiple tests. He had to have an MRI, spinal tap and two sets of blood work plus meds. He also had chiropractor appointments and treatments from them. Never once did Healthy Paws give me an issue or try to not pay something that was covered. Even though we racked up thousands of dollars in bills they paid them quickly and even emailed me to check in on my boy to see how he was. They were always responsive to every question I had and were very caring. This whole ordeal has been a thousand times less stressful because of having insurance and also because of Healthy Paws care and responsiveness. I was afraid they would try to get out of paying as much as possible, but they have actually done the opposite and paid for more than I expected. They review claims quickly and send payments quickly. I'm so thankful I got insurance and have Healthy Paws for my little guy.
