Healthy Paws | Pet Insurance Review

Healthy Paws has far exceeded any expectations I may have had in every aspect, including coverage, service and (yes, really) compassion. I have been a commercial insurance broker for over 40 years, and in the past thought pet insurance was a scam. I was always a cat owner, and never experienced any need for vet care. We got Minnie, our first dog ( a MinPin), ten years ago, and it's been a wonderful adventure. After her first illness and hospitalization, which cost $4000 (uninsured), I did some research on pet insurance options. In addition to competitive pricing and plan designs (90% w/$100 Ded) Healthy Paws was the only Pet Insurance carrier I found (there may be others) without an annual maximum, and that was a major requirement for me, so we applied. In the last few years Minnie has had regular need for advanced vet care and hospitalization, and to say that I've been impressed with Healthy Paws response would be an understatement. This is evidenced most recently when poor Minnie was diagnosed with diabetes. Healthy Paws, as usual, handled every aspect of that claim with incredible speed, professionalism and, as always, great communication. The acid test came several months ago, when Minnie developed cataracts and went blind. It was heartbreaking. We discovered that cataract surgery was possible for dogs, and was very successful, but also very expensive. Rather than just turn in a claim and 'hope for the best' I contacted HealthyPaws to see if I could 'per-certify' the surgery. Their response was fast and positive, as was the ultimate processing of the claim. There was no hesitancy, and there was no issue having the surgery on both eyes. They seemed surprised I was even worried about their response. But not only that, they contacted us after the claim was paid, and asked how Minnie was doing, showing real personal concern. I was amazed at this level of personal service. I am a firm believer in transferring what I believe to be a significant risk (uninsured veterinary care beyond well care) to insurance, and my choice is clearly Healthy Paws, for the reasons outlined above. I first bought Healthy Paws when my vizsla was 8. Within a year she was diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma. It was terminal. HP covered around $20,000 in expenses. We knew we couldn't cure her and I am sure HP did too. Together we gave her, and us, another 6 months. Now I have 3 dogs and they are all insured. It's just peace of mind. One of my dogs recently tore her ACL. With HP's coverage for one treatment that dogs insurance payments have been reimbursed to date. I only wish my own health coverage was this easy.

Healthy Paws covered 90% of my claim less my $250 deductible. My puppy broke his canine tooth and had other issues with his jaw. I am so glad I chose Healthy Paws. Not many other insurance companies cover dental at all. I was relieved they covered accidents pertaining to canine teeth. They were prompt with reimbursement and even checked up on him to see how he was doing. They are terrific!

I have a 3 y/o German Shepherd who's had two major illnesses in the last year; one caused by a tick bite and one likely caused by an ingested sock! Both times Healthy Paws quickly processed the claims with no hassle and followed up afterwards to see how my dog was doing! I had another pet insurance and they took twice as long to process claims and there were always questioning our vet. Glad with our new addition to the family --we chose Healthy Paws.

I cannot say enough about Healthy Paws. I signed my dog, Bishop up for coverage when he was 3 or 4 years old as a precautionary measure. When Bishop was 7, he was diagnosed with a degenerative and progressive spinal disease. Before his diagnosis was confirmed, we went through MRIs, CT Scans, Xrays, bloodwork and countless vet and specialist appointments. Not only was Healthy Paws a critical part in my family being able to afford Bishop's diagnosis, they were an integral part in us ultimately choosing to get Bishop a wheelchair and extend his happy life, even without the use of his back legs. Bishop lived a tremendously happy and healthy last 2 years with his disease, largely because Healthy Paws allowed us to focus on Bishop's health and not the medical bills. We were able to give Bishop THE BEST HEALTH possible. I am indebted to Healthy Paws for Bishop's last few years. Had we not had them, affording his medical care would have been a tremendous burden. We just adopted a new puppy and signed up for Healthy Paws the day we got her. I will never have another pet without having Healthy Paws <3
