Unethical Business Practices
People should be aware of the way Embrace does business. Here is some context: My dog is 6ish- I got insurance for her about 4 years ago. She has no preexisting conditions, is not on any medication, and I have never filed a claim with Embrace. The premium for the first year of coverage was low (for my dog, it was $33 for the year). The second year it went up 30% to $43/month. The third year (2020) , it went up 95%. Yep, you read that right. My new premium was $85 a month- my reimbursement rate was 80% and my deductible was $750 with a max payout of $10k. The company sent out a letter claiming that they apologized for such a large increase in premiums, that they had their book of business reviewed by actuaries and needed to make adjustments. (I would be willing to bet that a lot of other people have received this letter... but at different times, not just 2020- some 2 year customers problably got theirs this year) I increased my deductible and lowered my reimbursement rate so I could afford the premium which I got down to $63 a month. This year, they have increased my premium again 24%, up to $78.30. I cannot make my deductible any higher, but I did lower my reimbursement rate, once again to get it back down to $62.00 a month. If I got to the Embrace website and request a quote as a new customer, I get a quote of $33 a month. The same rate I had as a first year customer... strange.
The company blames everything but themselves when you complain about the premiums: the state you live in, how the Department Insurance doesn't set caps, etc. They know what they're doing is shady. I really hope people will stay away from Embrace. If this review deters just ONE person from buying a policy with them, I consider taking the time to write this, a win.
