I just canceled my policy with AKC pet insurance

I have a policy with AKC pet insurance for 6 years. I submitted my first claim ever, a few months ago. Reimbursement around 450 dollars. My premium jumped from 79 a month to 101 a month. I expected a slight increase, but not 22%. If it had been a massive claim, yeah, but it wasn't.

DISAPPOINTED IN AKC, thought they were so much better!

Purchased a Platinum package from AKC which included 30 days of pet insurance. Go home, registered my pup and tried to activate my insurance to find out they no longer insure Canadians. Now stuck with a $2000 vet bill. Had i/we known the breeder would have put me under her insurance for that first 30 days. All I got was "Sorry", but yet they take the money and tell you insurance is included in that price".

Atrocious service and reimbursement

Atrocious service and reimbursement! The worst experience ever. Do not use AKC insurance. Four years of premium’s and only one claim approved with a meager $21.80 reimbursement. Waste of time and money.

After reviewing all the comments in here. I have one question. The claim denial happened on these due to injuries being caused by preexisting conditions. However on your page you claim to be “the only insurance plan that covers preexisting conditions?” Sounds suspicious!

Monthly Cost

$5 – $90 depending on coverage options chosen.

Coverage

You have a co-pay of 20% after your annual deductible. The pay-out amount is based on your actual vet bill.

Payout Limits

Per incident limit of $1,500 – $8,000 and annual limits of $3,000 – $16,000 depending on your chosen plan.

Deductible

Choose from $100 – $1,000 annual deductible.

Age Limits

Pets must be at least 8 weeks old to enroll with no upper age limit. Coverage options available for senior pets.

Waiting Period

Coverage goes into effect one day after enrollment. There is a 5-day wait period for accident claims and 14-day wait period for illness claims. AKC Pet Insurance provides 30 days of accident and illness insurance coverage included with AKC registration for newly registered puppies.

Exclusions

Pre-existing conditions are not covered. Customizable plans allow you to add-on coverage for inherited and congenital conditions, exam fees and wellness care. Cancer coverage included in base accident and illness plan.
