How to Save Money at A Pet Clinic of Kent

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My pup ate a corn Cobb and they were able to get her in right away. The Dr. Was very through and kind!! It's nice to find a vet that actually cares about your pet and not just the money. Thankyou guys for all that you do!!

They were wonderful. We had never been there and our regular vet was unavailable and we needed emergency care. We thought our cat just needed a tooth pulled and it turned out that she had a rare form of bone cancer that was very aggressive and eating away at her jaw. Our only option was to put her down. The care, compassion, and support the staff put forth was so amazing. Cuddles was so loved in her last moments by people she'd never met and I'm so grateful. I recommend this place to anyone. The 30 minute drive was worth it. And the price was reasonable.

This clinic, most likely permanently, injured my cat. I brought my cat there almost 2 months ago to get her teeth cleaned. When I got her back, later that day, she was limping very noticably on her back right leg. Her leg was bent at an abnormal angle and she could no longer jump onto furniture or walk well. Right out of the carrier she was like this when we got home from the procedure. I called the office and brought her in to see Dr. Nagra. He said that she may have been injured when he was pulling her out of her carrier as she tried to bite him. This was an immediate red flag. He gave me some pain meds and said he would give her an x-ray if she didn't get better. Well, after 3 visits, 10 days of pain meds, and multiple X-rays that he reluctantly did I was told that there is nothing wrong with my cat--who is still limping and can't walk properly 7 weeks later. I have had to set up steps for her around my house as she falls off my bed and couch trying to jump up there. My cat was totally HEALTHY before I took her to Dr. Nagra for a routine teeth cleaning. Whatever he did to her is serious enough that she has not gotten any better in over a month. I did finally get a $175 refund from the $600 that I paid him, but he didn't want to give me any money. He stated, and this is a direct quote, "me giving you this money is not me accepting fault for my mistake." Are you kidding me!? He knows he injured my cat. That's why from day one he never questioned anything; he gave her pain meds for free because he knows he hurt her somehow. Did he drop her? Did he hold her down aggressively on a table? Did he throw her? I have no idea and wondering makes me sick. He also acted like giving her x-rays was some sort of charitable act on his part. He basically said that unless my cat's leg is broken, as if that's the only form of injury that exists, then there is nothing wrong with her and he won't assume any responsibility for his negligence or abuse. He saw her limping in person and I showed him videos. He also said, on my first visit after this happened, he could tell her leg was injured because she was guarding it. Yet, that is obviously just how she chooses to walk now because according to him she's completely fine. This clinic might be affordable, but you get what you pay for. Dr. Nagra does not care about your pet. He showed absolutely no empathy for my cat and never once apologized to me. I went to him for over 10 years with 3 pets of my own and 2 fosters, btw. I was a very loyal customer. Not any more! Stay away!!!!!!!
