How to Save Money at Horse Heaven Hills Pet Urgent Care

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We adopted a senior Pomeranian who apparently has a lot of anxiety and trauma. We've had her a year, and landed our selves at Horse Heaven Pet Urgent Care because of a nasty cough/rattling in her chest. I called and didn't get an answer but their system text me right away. I LOVE that they can text vs have us keep calling and calling. I sent a video and recap of the issue and they got me scheduled right away. When we walked in, it was instantly comforting. Slurpee usually shakes really bad anywhere new and unfamiliar. We were taken back to the exam room where they had couches for us, instead of cold stainless steel tables. Slurpee had no idea she was at the vet, and just took a nap and waited for the doctor. This was a major game changer for her. She was relaxed and thought we were visiting friends. I cannot express how much stress and anxiety this atmosphere relieved for both of us. (I'm always afraid she's going to run, hide, jump, nip, and I always feel bad taking her to places that terrify her etc). The doctor was very nice, as was the vet tech and front desk staff. They had water and coffee available which was a relief with 6+ hour stay to make sure everything was done/covered and our dog was on her way to good health! I highly recommend Horse Heaven Pet Urgent Care

I was really happy with the service I received here. I went there because my dog had some cheat grass in her ears. She was in extreme pain and I could not get a vet appointment in the area from anybody.I was looking at at least five days to a month out to get in anywhere. I wish there were more facilities like this in our area as I do think there is a huge need for people to get their pets in for same day appointments. My personal vet was a month out for an appointment!!!! I do miss the guy in Pasco who would see pets as a walk-ins first come first serve 2 to 4 pm. He was never not without patients to see! The staff was extremely compassionate and took good care us. There were lots of calls fir their services while I was there and it was standing room only. Huge need for additional pet urgent care facilities ... good job guys! Wish you could have got all the people who need you in that day. Prices reasonable too. nice clean facility as well.

A great place to go when your pet has am emergency. They aren't chain owned, they're locally owned! The staff was super nice when we came to bring in our cat Jasper. The facility was very nice looking which was also a bonus. Will definitely be coming here next time we need to!

We travelled 70 miles to the pet urgent care on a Sunday. Our 10 year old chihuahua had woke up, nearly unable to stand, and our local vets were all closed. I called and spoke with Bailey, who was very informative and kind, and she got us on the waiting list. We were running a little behind, trying to get everyone in the car and packed, I called to notify them and they were completely understanding. As soon as we arrived they took us back to comfortable exam room with couches and a tv. Kayla checked his vitals and was great, I felt at ease as soon as we arrived. Dr. Erickson took time to explain our dog’s condition and how to care for him. I was able to ask her multiple questions about other health issues I’ve noticed, and she was knowledgeable and helpful. She recommended proactive and non-invasive solutions, which I really appreciated. They sent us with prescriptions and our pup was feeling better in no time. I feel confident that he will get better and would happily drive the extra way to have our pets treated here. Big thanks, Chancho and the Hernandez Family 🐾

I had to do one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do in my life. I lost my best friend 🐾 yesterday and the staff was so kind and caring. The vet was honest with us and gave us potential options, but also didn’t give us false hope and rack up a bunch of bills. I really appreciate how compassionate the staff was, especially with what we were going through. The room we were in was not a common vets office. They had couches, a tv, pillows and a dog bed. It felt like we were in our living room so my girl was comfortable and not scared. They gave us all the time we needed. Thank you for making one of the worst days of my life just a little bit easier. I appreciate all of you who were involved. 🐾🌈
