How to Save Money at Edmonds Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have been here for about 5 years now with my Corgi named Zeus. I absolutely love this clinic, although I feel sorry for them because my dog is really hard to work with. Zeus is a rescue and his temperament is very distrustful, anxious, and aggressive. He is VERY hard to work with because he hates being touched. And he is not muzzle trained but we are working on it. I was recently turned away from other emergency clinics but Edmonds Vet hospital has helped Zeus through an emergency retrobulbar abscess and a surgery with 14 tooth extractions. They were able to schedule a surgery way sooner than I expected! They saved my dog when no other emergency room vet could. Not only that, but vet techs are very kind and prices are very competitive. My only issue is communication between levels can be improved. Unless speaking directly to vet techs (I have never spoken with the doctor), I feel nervous about important information being missed through the levels, like medication, sedation, important pre-surgery info like seizures, etc. I recently had a bit of an issue about my dog’s aftercare for surgery regarding antibiotics. However, it was resolved the next day. My advise, this vet is worth going to. They are trustful, skilled, and the staff I’ve worked with all try their very hardest to do the best for their patients. You might have to chase around with questions, or double check information, but we are all human. Reception is very kind and helpful when creating appointments, but I would recommend speaking to a tech for serious questions in order to avoid confusion. Thank you edmonds vet!❤️🐶

Care was fine. I had an adopted/inherited dog who was terrified of the vet. He needed a shot. The tech wanted to take my dog into the back to give him a shot. I asked, since it was a very simple procedure and the dog was terrified to be there anyway and just wanted to be with me if they could do the shot in the exam room. The tech fought me on that pretty hard. Ultimately they agreed and gave my dog the shot, which was as easy and simple as you would expect. But both the tech and the bet were put out and let me know it. There seemed to be lack of concern for my dog’s psychological well being.

Dr. Fry and her entire team are absolutely amazing! The team has gone above & beyond to ensure our two cats with severe vet anxiety are as comfortable as possible and well cared for during every appointment. They've been able to fit us in quickly for urgent appointments, and they provide advice and suggestions over the phone for any issues that arise between appointments --- we'd give 10 stars if we could! 🤩

The staff are all extremely helpful and caring, including the reception/admins. They pay attention and remember things about thwir customers and naturally make effort. They do their best successfully to get you an appointment when you need one. Dr. Fry performed a physical exam of my 4 year old golden retriever when she was sick and was able to identify that her lymph nodes were inflamed, even though it didn't seem relevant. She made the decision to biopsy to be safe and ended up saving my girl's life, as although she was very young, she was positive for Lymphoma and wouldn't have made it if we hadn't caught it and started chemo right away with an Oncologist. Highly recommend this vet office and am so happy to have a reliable and trustworthy vet for my babies. Thank you!

We left this facility in favor of Cascade Pet Hospital and feel very good about the move. Our last interaction last year was when they refused to take our dog’s stool sample for a fecal test when my pup was having diarrhea, and telling me they were short staffed. This didn’t make sense to me because they normally just send the stool sample to the lab. Our ongoing issue with them was that we did not follow ALL of their recommendations. We also consulted with a holistic vet and used our best judgment deciding which treatment to use for our pet. We found that multiple antibiotics they prescribed earlier were not effective and the infection would come back. Our decision to try more holistic approaches infuriated some of them. One of their doctors canceled our appointment with her because we earlier did not agree with her yet another antibiotic recommendation. She expressed it to us directly through the receptionist. So considering this, we believe that their refusal to provide service to us was caused by their outrage about our ‘disrespectful’ attitude to their recommendations. We consider this behavior unprofessional deserving 2 stars at the most.
