How to Save Money at Bellevue Value Pet Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My 10 year old cat, foxy, was attacked by raccoon in December of 2022. She was bit on the leg and scratched on the eye. At first, her eye was swelling shut and I was worried it was becoming infected. I took her to Bellevue Pet Clinic and they gave her antibiotic eye drops and instructed us to continue to treat her twice a day for a week. Her eye was beginning to open and things were looking up! Then a week later, foxy began to limp. That is when I noticed that she had a bite on her leg that had began to pus and bleed (it’s almost like it worsened overnight). No other clinic could take her on such short notice and I knew that she had to be seen ASAP due to her behavior (isolating herself, limited movement) and the fact that she would not stop licking her wound. I was shocked to see how fast everything started to go downhill. The day of her original visit, there was no visible wound so it must have gotten infected and swelled. I called Bellevue Value Pet Clinic immediately and they got me in the same day. They cleaned her wound and told me she would need surgery ASAP. They performed surgery on her leg the next morning. All the staff were very kind to me considering how scared I was for my baby. The prices were reasonable and DEFINITELY less expensive in contrast to other pet clinics. She had several visits after (bandage changes) and she was recovering so well! Foxy gets nervous and anxious when at the vet, but they treated her so well and the care for her by the staff was heartwarming! I love how the staff at this clinic genuinely love and care for their furry friends unlike other clinics who just see these animals as nothing more than a check. This was definitely the worst scare I’ve had regarding my cat and I am so so thankful for the vets and staff that helped her along the way. She is back to her cuddly and lovable self now and I have this clinic to thank! I will leave photos of foxy in her first couple days since she was hurt and a photo of her now! Again, thank you x1000 to the staff at Bellevue Vet Clinic!!

Over vaccinated my dog. After reading reviews, this isn't the first time this clinic has done this. No apology, no communication if our dog would be okay after receiving a vaccination he didn't need. Vet claims the proper paperwork was never given and that they are not responsible for the over vaccination. All the documents that show his vaccination history was provided the first vet visit and was provided again his last visit. Seems they have issues with checking birth dates and putting all information into their digital database. Front desk lady was rude and snappy when I called in regards to a refund for the vaccine he didn't need and an explanation on why the vet ignored the question of if our dog would be okay. Disappointed and will not be returning. Keep physical copies of all your visits. I'm glad I did. I signed for this vaccine because I trusted these people. Double check all your records and take their word with a grain of salt.

A couple of months ago, I called to confirm if the vet had capability to offer second opinion on dog’s dental condition and teeth extraction necessity. I was told the onsite vet would be comfortable doing so. In the appointment, vet checked her teeth and recommended no extraction and asked me to set appointment for non-anesthetic dental cleaning. Paid an examination fee. Fast forward to yesterday, at the dental cleaning appointment, dentist was unable to do anything due to extraction necessity. I was charged $75 for a pure assessment and non cleaning. Should have directly recommended me for the dentist appointment in the first place. Paid twice for the same issue and delayed treatment.

TLDR: Dr. Reddy needs to find a new career. The rest of the team is amazing and provides great care at reasonable prices. I brought my dog here for his annual exam and I typically have no issues. However, we saw Dr. Reddy and he needs to find a new career. He is obviously scared of dogs and is ok with doing subpar work. My dog growled at him and requested a muzzle, I had no issue with this and understood. Even with the muzzle on my dog he did NOT do a physical exam and he was quick to disregard my concerns and asked me "how seriously do you want me to take this?" Well doc, I brought it up so it's a concern, take it seriously. I brought this experience up to the Vet Assistant and the front desk team. I met with the managerial team and explained what happened. They offered the solution of me seeing another Dr. to complete the exam. Dr.B was great! The rest of the team is amazing and I've always loved the care given here. But Dr. Reddy needs to go. Special Thanks to all of those who how helped us out and for all of the kindness.
