How to Save Money at Bellevue Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

It cost me 1200+ to get a international health certificate for my cat here. Look for other places if you can Looks like I can't reply to the owners response, so I'm adding it here: "Multiple exams for vaccination and tests": a rabies antibody exam which cost 400 out of the 1200, and a chat with a vet about my cat's general health (and my cat has no problem anyway because we are always on schedule for regular health check). My cat is also on time off all vaccinations, so no extra was needed. "3 Months of coordination": several emails asking if I have all the documents, and booking of two appointments "Working with USDA:" uploading these documents online, and asked for updates once. I personally don't think these should cost 1200, but because the final document has to be done within 2 weeks of flight, I feel time pressure to change. And I did thank the vet and the staffs, they are always friendly and tentative (the two extra stars are for them). The person I don't like is the coordinator I have to talk to through this process (I guess is also the one replying to my review). She omitted the final price, is not very responsive, and is trying to blame me for not asking for the final price. 0 stars for her, and the business that hires a manager like that and charges crazy price

I brought my 6 year old kitty in for a wellness check provided by the Humane Society. Bellevue Animal Hospital is not on the list - however, they gladly accepted the voucher. I was greeted immediately and shortly thereafter taken into a private room. Lily was scared as you can probably understand, but the tech was so sweet and kind to her. She called her a little angel and by the time the visit was over - Lily was purring. It did take 3 people - 2 techs and myself to clip her nails. She may be just 6 pounds - but she is definitely a strong one. Dr. G was amazing. Everyone treated her with kindness and calm voices. I think that is what helped her remain calm during the visit. I would definitely recommend Bellevue Animal Hospital to others. Only one drawback - parking. Parking is a challenge but that be can overlooked when the staff are so awesome!!! By the way, Lily is the Russian Blue on the left with her baby sister Milo, 2 years old.

I had been a loyal customer of Bellevue Vet for over 20+ years but I cannot recommend them anymore. I have had 2 major events that were not handled appropriately and now I cannot say I trust the staff or Dr. Bruce. I had an appointment last week for my dog for a nail trim, where I overheard “there is blood and puss” and when I inquired w/the technician said she ruptured an (obvious) growth on her upper paw when she was clipping her nails. When I asked her to bandage it she stated that it was NOT a medical appointment. When I called to express my concern, I was given false information by who ever answered the phone. She also brought my dog to me and was so close to my face that my dog scratched my face over my eye, and the technician (that I asked to step back) and Dr Bruce said I did not get scratched. I must say, I have not ever sued anyone for damages- but that they both said I wasn’t scratched when I CLEARLY was, made me upset. After all, I’m the one who sees my face every day. But what is more upsetting is that today I had to come back in again for my dogs care, and requested a response from Dr. Bruce, and when he came in he was angry and hostile and that scared me. He said that my complaint was unfounded and that I was “clearly over emotional”, and yelling at him . I did get emotional when he entered the room and was angry, aggressive and saying that my complaints were unfounded but when he accused me of yelling at him (didn’t happen) I reminded him that my voice was of the same register and he clearly could hear I was never yelling. And then apologized to me, saying he was so sorry but he was so sick of addressing complaints like mine. Dr Bruce, that’s your job. If your tired then retire but you will not abuse me and try to demonize my request for a professional response. Very disappointed and I have now found another vet.

Since adopting our rescue dog, we have had our fair share of vet visits and a couple accidental injuries. They are the ONLY vet that I have called and got through without the hassle of an automated call or being on hold for 10 minutes. The front desk ladies are always kind and Dr. Lewis was so professional as well as knowledgeable during my dog’s checkup. I will always return here
