How to Save Money at Hope Advanced Veterinary Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Hope emergency vet clinic treats your pets experiencing an emergency crisis very well and with respect. I've needed to take two of my cats here over the years and they have received quality care while I've received great customer service, both in-person and over the phone. Whether taking your pet directly inside or using Hope's available curbside service, you can expect the same level of customer care. I hope I don't need to bring another pet here, but if I do, I know they'd be in great hands. I recommend this emergency vet clinic.

I am deeply disappointed with the services provided by Dr. Adkins, the Veterinary Ophthalmologist at Hope Advanced Medical Center. If I could leave ZERO stars, I would. We took our beloved senior Persian Himalayan cat to her to get his left eye checked, and the experience was nothing short of disastrous. Firstly, Dr. Adkins prescribed idoxuridine for our cat's eye condition without thoroughly explaining its potential side effects or what we should expect during the treatment process. Within the second day of administering the medication, our cat's eye condition not only failed to improve but actually worsened in both eyes. It was a distressing and heartbreaking sight to see our poor cat suffer without any sign of relief. Moreover, the rumors we had heard about Dr. Adkins' poor bedside manner were unfortunately proven to be true during our visit. She appeared cold, disinterested and rushed, failing to give our pet the attention and care he deserved. It was evident that she was more focused on moving through appointments quickly rather than taking the time to address our concerns and provide thoughtful advice. Adding insult to injury, when we reached out to Dr. Adkins for assistance as our cat's condition continued to deteriorate, she was unresponsive and indifferent. It took several days for her to finally reply, and even then, her response was minimal and unsympathetic. Instead of offering any meaningful guidance or solutions, she simply suggested that we see our primary vet for a corneal ulcer evaluation. As pet owners, we trust veterinary specialists like Dr. Adkins to provide top-notch care and expert advice for our beloved animals. Unfortunately, our experience with her was far from satisfactory. Her lack of attention to detail, poor communication, and seemingly negligent treatment plan left us feeling frustrated, worried, and without any confidence in her abilities as a veterinary ophthalmologist. Since discontinuing Dr Adkin's prescription, thankfully, our cat's condition has since improved under their care. It is unfortunate that we had to endure such a distressing experience at Hope Advanced Medical Center, and we strongly advise others to exercise caution if considering Dr. Adkins as a veterinary specialist for their pets. Our furry friends deserve better than this level of care and treatment.

Wow were they fantastic! I brought my dog in late on a Friday night for an emergency. I've never met such great front desk, vet tech, and veterinary staff before! Conscientious, super nice, and thorough. I couldn't have asked for better. Even the follow-up to an email the next day was prompt and nice. Yes, emergency vet visits are expensive, and you should expect a wait. That's the way it goes everywhere. But get pet insurance, and then go here if your pet needs help. PS - my dog is fine now :)

One goes to Hope Center when faced with health problem. We went there for dog oncology. The staff, nurse and doctors are great. Very attentive. So helpful to keep us informed of, and discuss the treatment plan. The space is comfortable. They have coffee and wifi.

My puppy broke his leg on a Saturday, while visiting family in the area, from out of town. They got him in right away and took him straight back to diagnose and start with some pain control. The emergency hospital took fantastic care of him, and scheduled surgery for following Monday. The surgical center also provided excellent care, and everyone was accommodating of the challenges of being 6 hours from home. My only complaint is that they didn't inform the puppy himself of his broken leg, so now he is wondering why he can't run around 🤦‍♀️
