How to Save Money at White Oak Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

All the ladies at W.O.A.H. were fast and professional. I'm so happy they were able to fit us in last minute on the same day to help my poor old girl. They took great care of Tina (7yo. 108 lb Great Dane) from start to finish. Had us in and out in under an hour for a very reasonable price. Thank you 😊

We just moved to the area and both our puppy and 13 year old dog have been there now! We LOVE this place! Dexter (white) got groomed and had a wellness checkup today & we are blown away by how great they did and how at ease he was when we picked him up! 10/10 would recommend!!!

The doctors are almost always very nice and helpful, however we have consistently had problems with the office staff. They always have an attitude and seem to be impatient with us every time, also they gave me two different instructions to give medicine to my cat then ridiculed me the next time for not doing it the right way. They seem to have no patience for when my cats are uncomfortable in any situation. Sadly we have to search for a new vet, we are tired of having unpleasant experiences every time we visit.

I've been bringing all of my pets to White Oak for about 2 years. Went in for my visit, was told who my veterinarian would be. It's the same veterinarian that I have told White Oak AT LEAST twice that I do not want to see. I had stated I told you guys before I don't want to be seen by her, vet tech asked if I wanted a different vet and I said no it's fine I'll just make sure front desk is aware again before I leave. The vet tech went to the back and told them I was cussing at her. A different lady came in the room and said I would not be seen today and I needed to leave for cussing at her vet tech and being disrespectful. I used the f word to sentence enhance twice according to them. I believe it because I cuss but I wasn't directing it AT the vet tech and was totally shocked by this because I didn't even know I had cussed. I didn't raise my voice, cause a scene, or anything. I also stated that they too were being disrespectful by scheduling me with a veterinarian I had stated I didn't want to be seen by before. The lady told me there was no note of that on any of my pets records. HOWEVER, Im giving 2 stars because there are some wonderful veterinarians there like Dr. Pepper and Dr. Branson.

After getting the first dog of my own Katia from a local rescue White Oak Animal Hospital has really been there for myself and my pup. She was diagnosed with a detached vein in her eye a few months in and White Oak set up a same day appointment in my opinion with the best k-9 eye surgeon on the East Coast. They were there for us the entire time even making sure she was comfortable on the trip there. As a first time dog owner they really took care of us and helped to ease my worries and anxiety during that situation. Also, next door at the training/play time center Katia has been attending every day for many months. They really do take care of the dogs there while I am at work, and it helped my pup to be a happy social dog who gets along with just about every fellow k-9 she meets, which makes taking her places in public stress free.
