How to Save Money at Hope Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My Finn had terrible skin. We found he has multiple allergies and was suffering. He was miserable, we were too. Helpless was how we felt. Dr Ahmad took great care of our boy. He tested him and we are now armed with knowledge so we can manage his exposure to allergens and Finn is one happy boy. Thanks so much to the staff at Hope Animal Hospital! For pet owners, one of the concerns when moving is finding care for your furbaby. I’ve only been bringing our pup here for a few months, but they’ve been great. When your little one isn’t well, the Dr explains what they know and don’t, as well as what the options are. We feel good about the care she’s getting.

Great, but expensive. Was in the area from out of town and had an urgent issue with a dog's paw. Went to another place first and I wasn't impressed and the dog needed to be looked at again a few days later. The doctor here was terrific - he performed the exam with me present, which was helpful and enabled us to better discuss things. Doctor was very thorough and was NOT rushed. Doctor was also very knowledgeable (the other place didn't seem to know what I was talking about, among other issues). I would absolutely come back and also recommend Hope Animal Hospital. The only downside was it was a bit pricey. Note: for established patients they also do walk-in vaccinations on Sundays from 1-3pm (no appointment).

Amazing staff, amazing vet. 100% trustworthy and caring. Dr. Ahmad is one of the most committed and caring vets out there. Despite being constantly swamped with patients, he has always gone above and beyond for my cats. When Jasper had a heart related emergency at 15 years old, Dr. Ahmads diagnosis and treatment saved Jasper. Having a medical background myself, I must say his bedside manner is incredible. He's happy to explain, and clearly does his best to make sure the patient he is currently dealing with feels that they are the most important thing on his mind. The staff that backs Dr. Ahmad is equally as exceptional. Knowledgeable, professional, and kind, they deal with people who are stressed, sad, scared, angry, and frustrated. Sometimes, these people are less than kind, and take out their stress on the staff. I personally have watched them handle situations like this very professionally and with candor regardless of the misguided animosity they receive. They honestly go above and beyond and are a group of real people doing their best. If you need someone to trust with your furry family members, Hope Animal Hospital is the right place for you.

Dr. Ahmad is absolutely amazing! He has been our vet for 8 years. He is kind, patient and compassionate. He not only handles all his regular appointments but also takes in emergencies throughout the day, as I can attest to. Recently our dog was attacked by a deer and the hoof tore her leg up pretty bad. Dr. Ahmad and his staff got her in right away and had to do some minor surgery to fix her leg. She was very lucky to have Dr. Ahmad, she was bleeding and in horrible pain, an infection was already setting in and there was muscle damage but he fixed her up in the middle of an already busy day! I am so appreciative of him and the staff there! Everyone is so kind and accommodating. I will forever be grateful for him and his office and you would be lucky to have him as a Veterinarian. Love River and her family
