How to Save Money at VCA Castle Hills Companion Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Loved coming to this veterinary office. The front desk staff were extremely welcoming, personable, and helpful. Dr. Wood was very thorough in her examination and consultation. The vet assistant Tony was friendly and informative. They gave us goodie bags to take home with cat food, flea and tick prevention, and little laser points for the cats! And because it was our first visit, the cat’s wellness exams were free. I cannot say enough nice things about this establishment and the staff we will most definitely be coming back :)

Going to the vet can be stressful - on you AND your pets. Imagine with three cats at the same time! I found peace and quality care at VCA Castle Hills thanks to the best VA, VT, and DVM around! Hayley Bartlett and Noemi Reyes helped me take the cats into the vet and back to the car, offered me coffee and a quiet, safe place to chill out before and after the appointment. Dr. Cho was incredible with the cats! He has so much information and appreciation for felines in general. I hope they all continue to stay at VCA Castle Hills! They made the visit easier. =)

Our pup Nessie ate a piece of cheese with the wrapper still on it. Dr. Cho is the best and is so attentive. Alexis our tech took great care of us and the receptionists & Janet and Julia are so welcoming and ready with a cup of coffee. Because we are members of the care club these cheese fiasco visit cost us $0.

I just transferred to San Antonio from Florida. I was looking for exceptional medical care for my Service Dog Zenzi. I picked VCA Castle Hills and Dr. Wood. We had an extremely outstanding experience. Julia greeted us and checked us in. Helped me with a cup of coffee. The Vet Assistant, I believe Amanda started the visit before seeing Dr. Wood. Very happy with my gut instinct to make appointment with Dr. Wood. Very compassionate and was very good explaining everything. Julia and Rick checked us out! Rick and Julia definitely encompasses what customer service is all about. Extremely helpful, recognized my military service with a discount, which I appreciate. Julia explained everything to me, and set me up with future Med deliveries. ZERO negatives. I’m extremely happy I picked Castle Hills Companion Animal Hospital for my buddy Zenzi. He deserves the best, Castle Hill Vet is that place! Extremely satisfied.

Wow! What a great vet office! I am a first time dog owner. I grew up with dogs, but this is the first time that I'm the sole responsibility of my puppy. Looking for vet options was overwhelming for me, but I picked VCA Castle Hills. Upon my first couple appointments I was so amazed at the service and love they provided my puppy. They guided me through the whole process of being a first time puppy owner and made sure all my questions were addressed. Dr. Wood made me and my puppy feel like we were in safe and caring hands. Additionally, our vet tech, Anita, did an outstanding job with my puppy. She too took care of him and did an amazing job during my puppy's vaccinations. Additionally, the receptionists, Julia and Isela, were so delightful upon arriving and leaving. They gave my puppy love and made the whole vet experience seamless and stress free. I'm so glad I picked VCA Castle Hills. For my puppy and me, I know we are in good hands there.
