How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I’m incredibly grateful for the care my pets have received at Banfield, especially from Dr. Stroud and the entire team at the Bandera location. It’s such a relief knowing my pets are treated with compassion, patience, and honesty every time we walk through the door. The monthly wellness plans have truly been a blessing for us. From puppyhood to senior care, they’ve made quality veterinary care affordable and manageable. When my dog recently had a scary issue, the team kept me informed throughout the day, explained everything in a way I could understand, and helped me make the best decisions without ever feeling pressured or overwhelmed. Knowing I can trust my vet with my fur baby means everything to me. Banfield has consistently shown up for us, and I can’t recommend them enough.

I will never take my pet here ever again. The whole drop your dog off and leave them in a crate for hours on hours when you’re taking them there because you’re concerned about your pet doesn’t make any sense to me. That was the main reason I wanted to stop taking my dog here she kept coming back with a really bad anxiety. She also trained inside that PetSmart so it was very confusing to her as soon as I switched vets (we got to My Pets Vet where my older dog always went) and I saw a huge change in my dog. She isn’t as afraid and will actually be willing to go inside the vet. She is able to sit in a room with me now and they even let her brother come too for emotional support . The last time I tried to Take one of my dogs here for updated vaccines. They said they didn’t have him in their system when I had taken him there the year before. I don’t blame the staff as much as I blame this whole corporation. It seems very odd and corrupt. If you care about dogs and you are a veterinarian, you should have the owner in the room with you when looking over their dog I do not recommend taking your dog here, unfortunately.

I would like to give a HUGE Shout out to Cal, the cool guy at the front desk... Who has an awesome attitude, might I add! Dr. Stoudt was very informative about what was going on with my pups and gave me the attention needed to answer and calm my questions! Great place to take your pups, big ones and small ones! Thank you for your great support and service! 🙏🏾

I just moved with my two dogs to England through the military. My orders dropped so last minute, I was struggling to get everything done in time, along with getting the dogs to potentially fly over with me. I found out Banfield can do animal health certificates. Dr Bond was AMAZING! She did well more than she had to, to get the health certificate perfect and the dogs able to fly. She made multiple calls to the UK airport and others. She even was doing some last minute stuff this morning right before the dogs flew out. We just arrived this morning and the dogs had no issues. It was so great having someone who really cared during the most stressful time of my life.

I had to make the horrible decision to put my 17-year-old dog down. There is no way I could’ve done this without the help of the doctor and the assistant. They put me at ease that I had made the right decision. And they were understanding when I couldn’t even speak. I’m forever grateful. This picture was when he was young.
