How to Save Money at Community Pet Outreach

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

A Vet Clinic with integrity. I drive over from Frisco for all 6 of our animals. The difference in price and individual care this clinic has shown over the years is miles beyond the many other Vets we've used near our house. I'm VERY thankful for Community Pet Outreach, and just wanted to show my appreciation with this review. Thank you to all the staff over at Community Pet Outreach 🙏

The clinic is over all the best of all clinics of all the front desk, vet techs and doctors very professional and nice. I have been with them for over 10years with my dog. They have always treated me and my dog very well and are blunt about treatments. They are very gentle with my dog although he’s viewed as a stereo type feisty chihuahua (which he isn’t only with men😂) Even once when I had a question over the phone without taking in my dog for a consultation he ate chocolate which freaked me out they told me what to do and what to check on him if things get worse to take him in there or to the vet ER. Most clinics will tell you “we can’t say anything or do unless you bro no them in” any questions that I have had always given me a helpful response. They really do care and are there for the customers and the pets they are the best!

Went in for one vaccine and an exam for my dogs first visit, and they didn’t even give him a full exam like promised on the phone and ended up telling me that he need 5 more vaccines that were required (which weren’t) but gave him doses without weighing him and knowing what to give him. Didn’t bother to tell me that my breed of dog could get really sick from them too. After I was able to process all that had happened I called to talk to someone about the poor care and no one will return my calls or bother to talk to me when I call them.

First time visiting community pet outreach. The experience was very quick. Got all the updated shot and received dental consult. The price was very reasonable and better than many other vets in the area. Didn’t speak to the doc for long and was assisted by the vet tech. There was couple bad reviews so I was worried but Shael was hands down awesome and amazing with my dog! I will be going back for my dog’s dental work.

Best vet clinic ever! We had to put down our precious dog today after 16 1/2 years. It was traumatic as you can imagine but the staff and Dr at Community Pet Outreach (in Lewisville) were so compassionate and sensitive. We were taken to a private room. They had booklets about the process to help you grieve. We chose to stay for the procedure to say goodbye. They offered us options for special keepsake and so much more. If you are at that point of making this painful decision this is the place to take your precious pet for their final moments in earth.
