How to Save Money at Banfield Timber Valley

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We have ins. On our service dog and ins Thur Banfield and her ins is coming up for renewal in August so they called and ask me about doing a urine test and x-ray on her and I told them NO she didn't need it I just need her recheck on her foot that I brought her in for. But they took it on themself to do the urine test and x-ray just to use up her insurance so now if she should need those services we will need to pay for them. I will be looking for a new Vet and ins. for all 3 of our fur babies.

My most recent updated review! I'm going to go ahead and keep my old reviews because theres history and I think it's good to have. But let me update my review because they deserve more than 2 stars like how I had it. All the staff here have been tremendously kind and caring. My little dog Cherry passed away last year and I called them to cancel wellness plan and they sent me a condolence card with messages. It was so heart-felt and I appreciated it so much on so many level. My big dog Lando still goes there for the wellness plan checkups and they all love him and seems to care so much. Seems like doctors do switch around so I never know names but there are staffs there that's been there for a long time and remembers dogs name and I think that means a lot. Around 2019 ish, I didn't have a good feeling with a doctor that was there after Dr Grey left but lately all the doctors I've seen since have been taking good care of Lando. So thanks always TIMBER VALLEY staffs! I'm not gonna lie by saying I do miss the days when Dr Grey was there tho. Lol My review right after Dr Grey sold the practice to Banfield and left. (I originally gave it a 2 stars review about 2 years ago.) It is not the same anymore without him there. The nurses that are still there from when Dr Grey was there is always nice but the quality and the careness is no longer there from the doctors. It's like PetSmart all over again. I will be searching for Dr Grey on the web and hope to find him because my dogs needs him. Below is my old review when Dr Grey used to own the place over 2, 3 yrs ago (5 stars!) Friendly and trusting place. I have been going here for about 5 yrs now. I keep moving further away but I'd rather drive to a trusting Vet than go somewhere else. Both Cherry and Lando couldn't ask for a better doctor as Dr Grey and environment! Thanks always!

Not the place for involved parents with sick or injured pets. The optimal wellness plan is obsurd. $60 a month they talk you into and it really doesn't make sense to pay $800 a year in any instance. "Unlimited Visits" nonsense, visits aren't exams and exams are limited to 1 or 2 per year. It doesn't cover heartworm, it doesn't cover grooming, and doesn't have emergency fund scenarios. Doesn't amount PetSmart store points like it says. And the Vets didnt do full exam on my puppy 2 visits.

Staff was very nice and check in/out was good. I hesitate to bring my dog in though because no matter what I bring her in for what should be a 15 minute appointment turns into sticking her in a cage for at least 7 hours. I realize this is done for their convenience, they can't use Covid as an excuse anymore. No other vets do this and I think it's shameful. If I want to bring her in for say, an ear infection, I have to wait weeks for a non drop in appointment! I will not renew my membership and hope you will stop realize how wrong this is. Very disappointing.
