How to Save Money at VCA Spring Branch Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
I would never recommend this clinic. From the start, they were inconsiderate and failed to clearly communicate the service they could provide for the severity of my cat’s condition. While the vets initially explained things in a way that sounded logical, as soon as they left the room I could hear vets and techs laughing and snickering about having “missed that lesson during COVID.” That “lesson” turned out to be something critical: placing a catheter. They rushed me into making a decision that involved paying thousands of dollars, told me everything was fine, and said I could leave and just pick my cat up before closing. Thirty minutes later, they called to say they couldn’t do anything more for him and that I should seek treatment elsewhere. Despite knowing they couldn’t provide the necessary care, they continued attempting the procedure anyway. Multiple staff members tried repeatedly, prolonging the time my cat remained blocked. As a result, urine began leaking from his bladder into his organs, worsening his condition. When I took my cat to a second clinic, they placed the catheter with ease and said there should never have been an issue. This clinic was unprofessional, careless, and lacked the competence to provide proper care. My cat suffered because of it.

Fantastic experience! They took wonderful care of my cat. We called about a tooth extraction, were clearly given our options, and felt confident moving forward. The procedure went smoothly, and I truly appreciate the compassion and professionalism shown throughout. Thank you! we will be back soon

Very bad experience, I would never recommend this place. I brought my pet to his annual wellness exam. He was completely fine and eating well. They prescribed a treatment for his behavior. He stopped eating on the first day of taking the medication. I informed them. The doctor told me to wait 2 or 3 days. After insisting, I told her to prescribe something for him to eat. Her response was to do a series of tests at my own expense. In summary, they make your pet sick so that you later have to spend money and recover the first free wellness exam that they offer. It is easy for them. Now I have to look for a better place to take my pet and make sure that his organs are okay and that the medication did not harm him.

My experience with this veterinary hospital was mixed. While the veterinarian who cared for my pets spoke kindly and seemed knowledgeable, I found the overall pricing structure to be excessively high. The profit margin appears extreme, and I felt there was a strong emphasis on upselling additional services during the visit. It’s unfortunate because it gives the impression that staff are encouraged to push unnecessary extras, which can make an already emotional situation even more stressful for pet owners. I truly wish this weren’t the case, as I value good veterinary care — but I cannot comfortably recommend this hospital based on my experience. I believe pet owners deserve honest care without feeling pressured to overspend during a vulnerable time.

The receptionist at the front desk was discourteous and dismissive. I was informed that I must bring my dog in every month for heartworm and flea medication because they do not trust me to report her weight accurately. I have brought my puppy here several times for vaccinations, and each visit has been with a different veterinarian. This inconsistency and lack of personal rapport make it difficult to feel confident in the level of care and professionalism provided.
