How to Save Money at Abbott Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Absolutely disgusting experience. This place should be shut down. I came in with my dog after a thunderstorm—he was stumbling, weak, and clearly in distress. I called ahead, and they quoted me $145 just to walk in, without even asking what was going on. That should’ve been the first red flag. I arrived carrying my dog in my arms, and not a single person looked up or approached us. No urgency. No compassion. Just paperwork and immediate payment—before anyone even laid eyes on my dog. This is supposed to be a medical facility? We waited about 15 minutes in an empty lobby. A tech took us back and checked his temperature. Then the so called-vet, Iqbal Javaid, DVM, came in, barely did a physical exam, and said he’d be back with a quote. When he returned, he handed me a nearly $800 estimate and still had no clue what was wrong with my dog. No explanation. No effort. Just a giant bill and vague suggestions for tests. When I took the quote and the vet’s notes to leave, he lost it. Literally shouted at me and tried to snatch the papers out of my hands. I had to RUN out of the clinic with my sick dog in my arms because this unprofessional man was physically trying to take back documents I needed for my records. I called UrgentVet in Cypress, got seen right away, paid $223 after the exam, plus full treatment, and —surprise—they actually cared. They checked my dog the moment I walked in, explained everything clearly, and treated him with the urgency he needed. No drama. Just real veterinary care. How can a place like this be an animal caring facility. Zero compassion, zero ethics, and zero business handling emergencies. If you love your pet, go anywhere else. And if you’ve had a horrible experience like I did—report them.

Due to the negligence of “Dr” Iqbal Javaid, I lost one of my budgies this weekend. I noticed my budgies symptoms and quickly started looking for an avian vet. I have never needed to go to the vet before, and did not realize how difficult it would be to find an avian vet in my area. After calling at least a dozen clinics and finally finding one not only nearby, and had an avian vet, but was able to see my bird over the weekend, I quickly prepared my budgie to bring him in to get checked. When we were called into the exam room and it was time for him to bring my bird out of his carrier, I fully trusted that he was going to be gentle in handling him. I thought I exaggerated things in my mind, or that maybe my bird was just fighting and trying to escape. He was supposedly under the care of a professional. After he checked my bird’s weight, and seeing he was still okay I still trusted he was being gentle in his grip and not hurting him. He soon had my bird back in his hand and placed a towel over him which I thought was to calm him down a bit, but within seconds my bird went from struggling under his grip, then cried out and went silent and still. When I heard his cry I knew he was gone. He never got as far as an exam, I did not receive a full refund, I did not find out what was wrong with my bird, and I unfortunately did not leave the clinic with my bird still breathing. Instead he continued to tell me how my bird was so weak when I brought him in (he was not) due to my lack of care, and that he unfortunately passed before he could examine him (while holding my bird down the entire time). Nothing will bring my bird back, but I am sharing in hopes that someone will read and reconsider taking their pet to this clinic. I would hate for anyone to have to experience what we did, but I truly hope this never happens again.

This place is awesome. Staff is friendly and supportive. From the reception to vet techs are friendly and welcoming. Dr Javaid was highly recommended to me, and he did not disappoint. You can trust these folks to care for your babies. Thank you for helping us with Callie.

I took my fur baby in not knowing that she would need emergency surgery. The team at Abbott Animal Clinic immediately took great care of her and for that I am grateful. Thanks to all the wonderful staff there from Coco and I.
